Ieyasu Tokugawa was in a big pinch at Honnoji Incident and went on a journey to reproduce 'Iga-goe' where he returned from Osaka to Aichi at an explosive speed on foot.

When Nobunaga Oda died in the Honnoji Incident, Ieyasu Tokugawa was sightseeing around Sakai (Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture). After that, Ieyasu, who learned of Nobunaga's death, crossed Iga (Iga City, Mie Prefecture) with a small force and returned to Okazaki Castle (Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture) in a very short time. This event is handed down as `` Iga-goe '' or `` God Iga-goe '', but there are various theories about the schedule and route, and the most widely known theory is that ``I arrived at Okazaki Castle in 2 nights and 3 days.'' It has been. I was very curious if it was possible to cross Iga in 3 days and 2 nights when there were no cars or bicycles.

◆Determine the route to cross Iga
From Osaka to Aichi, there are many points that are said to be ``places where Ieyasu stopped because he crossed Iga'', but at the time of writing the article, the exact route of Iga is not clear. Therefore, based on multiple information sources, we decided to build a route according to three conditions: ``The starting point is Shijonawate Shrine ,'' ``The goal point is Okazaki Castle,'' and ``Itinerary is 3 days and 2 nights.'' Did.

Also, there is a strong theory that Ieyasu stayed at castles and temples and shrines instead of sleeping outdoors, but since it is difficult to stay at castles and temples and shrines at the time of writing the article, he said, There is a rule that it is OK to use public transportation to move around.

・Day 1 route
On the first day, you will depart from Shijonawate Shrine, go to Yamaguchi Castle (also known as Ujitawara Castle), where Ieyasu stayed, via the ``Sonenji Temple Signpost'' and ``Kusauchi no Ferry Ruins'' where Ieyasu is said to have passed. . According to Google Maps, the distance traveled on the first day is 30.7km.

・2nd day route
On the second day, after returning to the ruins of Yamaguchi Castle from your accommodation, you will go to Tokueiji Temple via Henjoin Temple, the ruins of Ogawa Castle, and Sakuratouge. The distance traveled on the second day was 45.1km. A little longer than a full marathon.

・3rd day route
On the third day, we will return to Tokueiji from our accommodation and head to Shirako Station via Zuikoji. The travel distance at this time is 36.5 km.

Ieyasu is thought to have crossed over to Mikawa by boat from the coast around Shirako Station, but at the time of writing the article, the only regular line crossing Ise Bay was the Isewan Ferry , which connects Toba and Irago, the tip of the Atsumi Peninsula. Since there is no ferry crossing, we will travel by train from Shiroko Station to Hekinan Station. Here, I will think that Ieyasu will also use transportation as much as he got on the ship.

After arriving at Hekinan Station, walk 21.1 km along the Yahagi River toward Okazaki Castle. Total walking distance for 3 days is 133.4km.

◆ Building physical strength for the Iga crossing
I haven't done any proper exercise since I dislocated my left thumb in 2023, and I was quite worried if I could walk 133.4km in three days. So, I started running in June 2023. In addition, in order to continue working on running, we created a channel to stream running records to the GIGAZINE official Discord channel and created a situation where we could forcefully work on running.

In the end, I was physically strong enough to run at 10km/h for an hour.

In addition, he carried a heavy rucksack on his back and carried out a 10-hour traverse mountain climbing with an altitude difference of 1800m. This has really strengthened my legs.

So I am physically ready.

◆ Iga crossing gear
While challenging Iga crossing, it is necessary to carry a PC and smartphone to contact the editorial department, as well as a large amount of food and water. Therefore, I decided to pack all my luggage into the climbing rucksack '

Futura 32 '.

This rucksack is suitable for carrying heavy objects for a long time because the weight is supported by the waist instead of the shoulders.

The biggest feature of Futura 32 is that 'the back of the pack does not come into contact with the back'. This will keep it from steaming. It is originally a rucksack for mountain climbing, but it should be useful for carrying a large amount of luggage for a long time over Iga.

Zach uses mountain climbing shoes, but he uses sneakers instead of climbing shoes. Climbing shoes have a stiff sole, so they are not suitable for long-distance walking on the asphalt.

We also prepared mobile batteries, sunscreen, and small portions of laundry detergent.

So, by the time this article is published, you should have started to challenge Iga. The GIGAZINE official Discord server plans to report the progress of Iga crossing from time to time, so if you are interested, please refer to the following article and join the server.

We've started a public beta test for Discord's GIGAZINE official server, so I'd be happy if you could join us! -GIGAZINE
