It was Mr. Jack Spiggle of the hardware enthusiast who remodeled the Apple Watch into a mechanical wristwatch. According to Mr. Spiggle, in the second-hand market, Apple Watch is sold at a very cheap price for reasons such as `` battery deterioration '' and `` screen crack ''. Mr. Spiggle got a second-hand 'Apple Watch Series 1' for only $ 1 (about 145 yen).
Mr. Spiggle prepares a Seiko movement 'NH38' in addition to the second-hand Apple Watch. In addition, we started planning to remodel Apple Watch into a mainspring-driven wristwatch by arranging the necessary parts and tools such as glass plates and drivers. The total material cost at this point is $ 50 (about 7200 yen).
The main reasons for using the NH38 movement are that it is available at a low price, that it does not have a complicated system for displaying the date and day of the week, and that it is easy to appeal that it is a mechanical wristwatch because the contents can be seen from the back. 3 points.
First, remove all Apple Watch displays, batteries, heart rate sensors, etc.
The display of Apple Watch is equipped with a touch sensor etc., but only the glass part is required for mechanical watches. Mr. Spiggle scratched the black part of the outer edge of the glass when removing the touch sensor etc., so he painted the scratch with black nail polish.
The dial is made by cutting out brass with laser processing.
The Apple Watch has a 'Digital Crown' that mimics the crown of a wristwatch. Mr. Spiggle decided to keep the outer part of this Digital Crown and use it as the crown of a mechanical watch.
In the following movie, you can see how the needle is operated by moving the Digital Crown after temporary assembly.
Cut the rotor of the movement and add an Apple logo style pattern.
Finally, each part is polished to a shiny finish.
