``GIGAZINE Manga Award'' Recruitment started in June 2023 & Top picture illustration making for comics release is like this

In May 2023, we released a comic titled ' Goshujin-sama Garlic Smells! ' At the GIGAZINE Manga Award , we are looking forward to new manga works and original scripts that will be serialized and published in comics. It takes at least one month from application to serialization, so please apply for works that will join the serialization team now.

◆Making of the top picture of 'My husband smells like garlic!'
The rough for the top picture drawn by the author Yumeki is below. The story of 'My husband smells like garlic!' is about Kaori, a maid who loves garlic and garlic dishes (left in the image below), and Mint, a vampire whose weakness is garlic (right in the image). The main trend is to lure them into eating garlic. Therefore, in the rough draft, I drew a picture that conveys the relationship between the two, 'Kaori, who went shopping together and found garlic, pulled Mint, who is her master.'

In the finished color illustration, a ``glowing garlic effect'' was added, which wasn't there in the rough/line drawing. In this case, the garlic that shines at the edge of the screen looks like the object Kaori is pointing at, so if the main subject is cut off at the edge of the screen, the composition may be lost. Therefore, fine-tune the position of the garlic.

・ If you serialize manga with GIGAZINE ...?
・Completely remote and leave the work timing to us

・Since serialized manga will be posted on GIGAZINE, you can read it first

- No strict deadlines, easy to schedule

・No restrictions on genre or target, anything is OK as long as it is interesting

・ Equipped with assistants who can entrust coloring and backgrounds (no need to pay for yourself)

・Because it is still a young label, it is easy for opinions and requests to pass through like a venture company!

・ For those who are worried about working as a freelancer, such as 'I don't have knowledge about law or tax, but is it okay?' or 'What about serialization work with editing?' Stage 1: Evaluation in a closed environment that can only be viewed by GIGAZINE secret club members + Evaluation including making materials by the editorial department

Stage 2: Judging after adding necessary items such as 'first episode manuscript' and 'plot up to the final episode' in a format that is more conscious of serialization. At the stage where we have made it this far, we promise to serialize in some form or another.

Final stage: In the serialized manuscript, the review by GIGAZINE editor-in-chief + evaluation by GIGAZINE secret club members + guest review such as authors serialized in GIGAZINE will be done to comprehensively determine the grand prize winner. Prize money 30,000 yen

Advance to the second stage:
Additional prize money of 20,000 yen + editorial charge for serialization

After posting in serial form on GIGAZINE, we will convert it into an e-book and sell it on Amazon. We will pay the prescribed manuscript fee and royalty. GIGAZINE is also responsible for selling and advertising e-books.

◆ Application for drawing, name composition, drawing help

・ How to apply for “drawing only”:
All you have to do is show us your portfolio URL and collection of works on the Manga Award application form . In the 'Others' column, please write 'Apply for drawing only'. There is no limit on the number of illustrations and manga for portfolios, and there is no line that says you need more than one, but the more you have, the easier it is to get a good evaluation.

・ How to apply for 'Name Composition Manager'
We are also looking for a 'name composition' that uses the original script of the text as the name. As with drawings only, please send as much as possible about your portfolio, titles of works you have created in the past, and manga works.

・Judging flow for “drawing only” and “name composition”:
We will contact you by the next month after submitting the form for the works that have passed the first stage screening after looking at the portfolio, so we will ask you to actually draw a trial original in the second stage screening, and after passing the final stage voting screening. to.

・Reward:
Passing Phase 1 Portfolio Screening and Participating in Phase 2:

*Since the review here requires additional manuscript work, incentives will be given to everyone who advances and participates in the second stage.

◆Original script application guidelines

・In addition to the first episode manuscript , please prepare the plot (synopsis) from the first episode to the final episode . For the synopsis, please describe the flow of the entire work in detail on the first page of the manuscript in 100 to 800 characters.

・In the first judging, we will look at the fun of a simple story and the completeness of one story. If you proceed from the second screening to the final screening, we will judge whether you can consistently create a storyline script up to the final episode, with an awareness of actually creating a manga original.

・If you are applying for 'original only' and text only, please paste the text into a Google document and then write the address of the shared link on the application form. In that case, please do not edit the document after applying.

・Make sure your Google sharing settings are set to 'Anyone with the link'. If you leave it as 'restricted', you will not be able to read the submitted work. For more information, check 'Share files publicly' in Google Docs Help .
