Wendy's concept is to lay a pipe underground to connect the Wendy's store kitchen and parking lot, and place an autonomous delivery robot in it to deliver food. A pickup portal will be installed at the ground level of the parking lot, and customers will pick up their food from the portal. It is expected that customers will be able to receive their orders quickly without getting out of the car from ordering to receiving.

There is also concern that 'drinks may spill', but according to the CEO of Pipe Dream, in the case of drinks, prepare a drink container and control the speed of the robot to

deal with it .

Trials of the underground delivery system are expected to begin in the second half of 2023. It is being considered to introduce it at stores on the east coast of the United States, where there are many digital orders, and it seems that the equipment can be installed in two weeks once the location is decided. If realized, it will be the first 'underground delivery system' in the industry.

Wendy's has partnered with Pipedream, a company operating with the goal of building a city-wide underground delivery network that enables fast, near-free (less than $1) delivery by autonomous robots. Pipedream's CEO admits that 'this is an almost impossible task,' but he's experimenting with drinking water businesses and small communities first. When building a prototype of equipment that delivers packages directly to homes, he also showed it to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

In announcing the automated delivery system, Wendy's said, 'Using autonomous robots, we can provide customers with a faster and more convenient system and restaurant crews with a more efficient and streamlined system. Revolutionizing digital ordering. We will utilize Pipe Dream's delivery technology and system with the goal of delivering Wendy's dishes to more people more efficiently.'
