Twitter users are uploading the entire 'Super Mario Bros. Movie' | Mashable
Below is one example of 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie' being uploaded to Twitter, discovered by the IT news site The Verge. The video was uploaded on April 28, 2023, and had been viewed 9.3 million times as of the 30th.
Another post has been viewed 9.1 million times. Each tweet had a 60-minute video attached, meaning the entire 94-minute movie was split into two parts.
Both of these tweets have been removed from Twitter for copyright infringement and their accounts have been suspended.
The Verge also points out that the movie Avatar: Way of Water, which has a running time of 192 minutes, or about three hours, was also uploaded to Twitter in this way.
According to Mashable, a foreign media outlet that covered this case, movies have been illegally uploaded to Twitter for some time, but since only 2 minutes and 20 seconds could be attached to a single post, in order to upload an entire movie, it was necessary to cut the footage into small pieces and create a long thread. However, by exploiting Twitter Blue, it is now possible to attach up to 60 minutes of video to a single tweet, making it much easier to upload and watch movies.
It has also been pointed out that the moderation team has been significantly cut, leading to a slow response to inappropriate tweets, including copyright infringement. In light of this, The Verge questioned Twitter's response, saying, 'Why do you think Twitter's previous owners didn't allow videos to be uploaded for 60 minutes?'
