In San Francisco, Waymo , a brother company of Google, and Cruise under GM are running robotaxis that run unmanned, and are attracting public attention as a commercial city of pioneering self-driving cars.
However, it is said that there are many reports that such robotaxis are obstructing traffic in the city. The following video was taken from a streetcar running in San Francisco, and shows how a Cruise vehicle misidentifies a streetcar priority sign and is about to collide with a streetcar.

There have also been reports of robo-taxis stopping due to fog. According to local news media San Francisco Chronicle, five Waymo vehicles stopped in the middle of a residential area in San Francisco, blocking traffic. On this day, a deep fog has been rising since the morning, and Waymo's spokesperson also explained that the reason for the stop was 'because of a very thick fog.'
According to eyewitnesses, five vehicles had blocked one lane to the pedestrian crossing, and one of them had protruded into the center lane. The confused drivers flashed their headlights and tried to avoid it, and some people said that they looked into the car from the window, but there was no way to deal with it because there was no one in the driver's seat. The vehicle was moved after the fog cleared, but it took several minutes to get back up.
A spokesperson said, 'In the future, we are planning to update the software to improve fog situation judgment and parking performance in order to respond to such situations.'

There have been reports of Waymo and Cruise vehicles interfering with traffic, with cases of stopping on the road and interfering with the fire brigade's firefighting efforts. In response to these reports, San Francisco regulators are calling for the suspension or reduction of services.

A spokesperson for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Authority commented, ``Although we do not have systematic data on traffic, we are compiling reports of road obstructions by self-driving cars.'' While the Department of Transportation frequently receives complaints about self-driving cars, the agency cannot act directly because self-driving cars are regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission, the spokesperson said. 'We are asking state and federal regulators to collect data before we expand our operations,' he said.
