Mr. Gearing ran FurMark (donut) with MSI Kombustor , MSI's GPU benchmark & stress test tool, with the RX 7900 XTX installed horizontally to the ground, and the GPU utilization rate was 100%. I did a stress test. The settings are windowed mode with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels and the rendering API is OpenGL 3.2.0.



Then, in less than 7 minutes, the

junction temperature of the GPU reached 110 degrees Celsius and the fan speed reached 2900 revolutions per minute. GPU clock and power consumption dropped about 5-7%. The GPU temperature shows around 60 degrees, so the difference between the hotspot temperature and the GPU temperature is very large.



This time, after shutting down the PC once, I tilted the motherboard of the PC by 90 degrees, placed the RX 7900 XTX so that it was vertical to the ground, and ran FurMark (donut) again with the same settings. Then, the GPU temperature was around 70 degrees Celsius, the maximum junction temperature was 92 degrees Celsius, the fan speed settled down to 1700 revolutions per minute, and thermal throttling was not seen for more than 15 minutes.



I repeated the same experiment while changing the orientation of the RX 7900 XTX several times, and the result was 'Full performance lasts only about 5 minutes when the RX 7900 XTX is placed horizontally, whereas it is vertical. If you put it like that, the full performance state will last for a long time.' From this result, Mr. Gearing suspects that there is some problem with the RX 7900 XTX's vapor chamber, as pointed out so far.
