It has been discovered that the GeForce RTX 5090 is in circulation due to a lack of parts, and gaming performance is reduced, so replacement is necessary

It has been reported that the top-of-the-line

RTX 5090 and lower-end RTX 5070 Ti models of the GeForce RTX 50 series announced by NVIDIA in January 2025 are in circulation with missing ROP units .

A user who uses the ZOTAC graphics ' GeForce RTX 5090 SOLID ' reported that when he used ' GPU-Z ' to compare his own graphics board with another graphics board equipped with an RTX 5090, the number of ROP units of a normal RTX 5090 (right) was displayed as 176, while the number of ROP units of the 'GeForce RTX 5090 SOLID' (left) was displayed as 168.

This issue is not limited to the ZOTAC RTX 5090, but is also occurring with graphics cards from various manufacturers, and users of MSI, Manli, Gigabyte, and Inno3D graphics cards have reported that some of their units are lacking in ROP units.

ROP units are responsible for pixel data processing, blending, anti-aliasing, and writing rendering results to the frame buffer, and a low number of ROP units leads to reduced gaming performance. In fact, overseas media TechPowerUp conducted tests on game titles such as 'ELDEN RING,' and found that the RTX 5090, which has 176 ROP units, achieved an average of 184.7 FPS, while the ZOTAC RTX 5090 SOLID, which has fewer ROP units, achieved only 174.1 to 174.4 FPS.

In response to these reports, NVIDIA stated, 'We have identified an issue with some GeForce RTX 5090 and 5070 Ti processors that have fewer ROP units than the original specifications. The impact on graphics performance is an average of 4%, and does not have a significant impact on AI and compute workloads.' However, they also stated, 'Consumers who have confirmed that they are missing ROP units can contact their vendor or NVIDIA customer support to arrange a replacement.'

Regarding the GeForce RTX 50 series, NVIDIA is investigating a black screen issue caused by a driver malfunction, and there have been reports of the power connector overheating and melting during use of the RTX 5090.
