Microsoft has been testing for adding tabs to genuine applications for a long time, and in 2018 added tabs to File Explorer with `` Build 17618 '', an insider preview version of Windows 10. However, this feature never made it into the final production version of Windows 10.

Following this, it became clear that tabs would be added to Notepad as well. An employee who is a senior product manager at Microsoft announced that a tab will be added to the notepad, along with the words 'A tab has been added to Windows 11 Notepad!' I posted a screenshot of Notepad to Twitter. However, the tweet was deleted a few minutes after posting, suggesting that it was not the official timing of the announcement.

Assuming development of the new tabbed notepad app is going well, Microsoft could make it available to Windows Insiders in the coming weeks, with an official release coming in the next few months. Windows Central reports that it may be approaching.
