YouTube cracks down on spam comments with AI, violators are banned for 24 hours and banned from commenting
Viewers can comment their impressions and opinions on YouTube videos and live broadcasts, but often there are comments called 'trolls' or bad words. YouTube has announced efforts to detect and remove such spam comments with AI, and a new feature that prevents users who have left multiple unauthorized comments from commenting for up to 24 hours.
Updates on Comment Spam & Abuse - YouTube Community
YouTube roughly divides it into three cases as 'what we are working on to improve the comment experience'. First of all, we are working on improving the machine learning model that automatically detects spam in comments, removing more than 1.1 billion spam comments during the first half of 2022. As spammers change their tactics, our machine learning models are continuously improved to better detect new types of spam.
Secondly, we are also improving the detection of bots that appear in the real-time comment (chat) section of live broadcasts to eliminate bots. ``Live chat is a place to interact with other users and creators, and we know that bots can adversely affect the experience of watching live broadcasts,'' YouTube said about the importance of the initiative.
And finally, we are also announcing a new feature that will display a warning to the user who posted the comment when we detect and delete the comment that violates the community guidelines using the detection function of those comments and bots. . If you ignore this warning and continue posting unauthorized comments, a 'timeout' will occur and you will not be able to comment for up to 24 hours. According to a test conducted by YouTube, it seems that by giving this warning / timeout to 'vandalism' users, it is less likely that users will leave violation comments again.
The purpose of our ability to detect and flag abusive comments is to protect the viewing experience and creators from users who try to negatively impact the community with their comments, while also providing transparency to users whose comments have been removed for policy violations. YouTube explains that it is to provide and understand the community guidelines.
At the time of article creation, violation comment warnings and timeouts are only valid for comments entered in English, but it is planned to support more languages in the coming months.
