On November 15, 2022, the Australian Ministry of Transport stated that 'Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) may not operate as intended and poses a high risk of accidents' and will not be sold between 2017 and 2020. A recall was issued for a total of 1,012 Tesla vehicles, two of which were affected.
According to the Ministry of Transport, a recently updated software calibration issue could cause EPAS to not work as intended, resulting in less steering assistance. Deterioration of the assist function can cause serious injuries involving drivers and passers-by.
The Guardian said, 'This recall is the second largest in Australian history,' and added information that a fatal accident had occurred in China a few days before the recall.
On November 5, 2022, there was a fatal accident caused by a Tesla 'Model Y' in Guangdong, China. A video showing the scene shows the Model Y running out of control and colliding with a bicycle and a car.

According to a person who claims to be a relative of the driver who caused the accident, the driver tried to stop the car at that time, but the brake pedal was very hard and the car did not stop even if he put it in parking gear. When he turned the steering wheel and went out to the roadway, the car suddenly accelerated and continued to run out of control for 2.6 km. The accident killed the motorcycle driver and the high school student riding the bicycle, and seriously injured the tricycle driver.
A person claiming to be a relative said: 'From the video you can see the brake lights come on. This is also proof that the driver tried to brake. State authorities, the media and the car owner have been trying to help my family. We hope that you will find out the truth of the accident as soon as possible and comfort the dead and injured. We will take legal responsibility.'
In addition, Tesla said to the police investigating this accident, 'We will actively provide necessary support.'
