Free online dictionary 'Linguee' operated by DeepL



DeepL GmbH, which develops the translation tool 'DeepL translation', has also released the dictionary tool ' Linguee ' for free, so I actually tried using it.

Linguee's top page looks like this. Japanese-English translation is selected by default, so you can look it up by entering the word you want to look up in the search box and clicking the search icon.



This time, the sentence 'I just killed it' was adopted from Elon Mask's tweet, which abolished the gray 'official label' given to celebrities on Twitter immediately after implementation. The literal translation is 'I just killed it (official label)', which is a bit clumsy.




So, in order to find out if there is a better reason for 'killed', enter killed in Linguee and perform a search.



Then, an example sentence using 'killed' and a translation example were displayed in the result.



If you scroll further down, you can see a list of online news sites and papers that use the word killed, and you can also check the translation. By referring to the example below, you can see that Mr. Mask's 'killed' this time seems to be better translated as 'end'.



Next is the word 'the economic picture ahead is dire' that Mr. Mask said to Twitter employees. I'm not familiar with the word 'dire', so I'll search for it.
