I tried to see how much the camera performance of 'iPhone 14 Pro Max' is

The number of pixels of the main camera of the 'iPhone 13 Pro' released in 2021 and the 'iPhone 14' released on September 16, 2022 is only 12 megapixels (12 million pixels), while ' iPhone 14 Pro Max' has risen to 48 megapixels (48 million pixels). In order to check the performance of this camera, I tried shooting various things with the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max - Apple (Japan)

Apple has implemented a function called `` ProRAW '' that enables photography with RAW data on iPhone 12 Pro and later Pro models with iOS 14.3 and later released in 2021. With the iPhone 14 Pro, if you take a photo with this ProRAW and the main camera, you can take a photo with a resolution of 48 megapixels. ProRAW is turned off at the time of purchase, so you need to change the settings if you want to use it. First, select 'Camera' in the 'Settings' application ......

Select 'Format'.

Tap 'Apple ProRAW' in the 'Photography' item to turn it on.

Open the camera app, tap 'RAW' in the upper right, and if the diagonal line disappears, you can use ProRAW.

No processing other than cropping and compression has been performed on the photos that will be posted hereafter. Below is how the sandwich was shot with the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Top is ProRAW on, bottom is ProRAW off. The resolution of the photo taken with ProRAW is 8064 × 6048 and the file size is 9.86 MB. The photo taken with ProRAW off had a resolution of 4032x2268 and a file size of 2.84MB.

Take a picture of the station premises in the same way. Photos taken with ultra-wide-angle lenses, telephoto lenses, night mode, flash photography, and macro photography are saved at 12 megapixels instead of 48 megapixels.

Next, I shot sweets with ProRAW off. The impression is that the light on the green sauce and the details from the mint stem to the leaves are captured in detail.

Next, I magnified the roadside flowers by 2 times and shot them. ProRAW doesn't support magnifications other than 1x, and the 2x telephoto photo is a 12-megapixel cropped shot taken with the 48-megapixel main camera.

Next, we prepared “iPhone 14” and “iPhone 13 Pro” and compared the performance with iPhone 14 Pro Max. The 3 models of cameras are attached like this. The iPhone 14 Pro Max (left) and iPhone 13 Pro (center) are equipped with 3 units, and the iPhone 14 (right) is equipped with 2 units. Of the iPhone 14 Pro Max cameras, only the main camera has been improved to 48 million pixels, and the telephoto and ultra-wide-angle cameras are left at 12 million pixels.

I took a picture of the previous flower with the iPhone 13 Pro and compared it. Move the bar at the bottom of the photo to the right to see the iPhone 14 Pro Max shot with ProRAW off, and move it to the right to see the iPhone 13 Pro shot.

Then shoot at 2x. The iPhone 14 Pro Max captures fine details such as the contours of flowers.

3 times.

Taken with an ultra-wide-angle camera at 0.5x.

Next, prepare iPhone 14 and compare. The images below were taken with the iPhone 14 Pro Max on the left, the iPhone 13 Pro in the center, and the iPhone 14 on the right. First, a 0.5x photo.

5x photo. The iPhone 14 does not have a telephoto lens, so you can shoot still images up to 5x.

Below is an image taken with the iPhone 14 Pro Max on the left and the iPhone 13 Pro on the right at 15x magnification.

Next, take a picture of a drink in a slightly dim store. The top is the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the center is the iPhone 13 Pro, and the bottom is the iPhone 14.

It looks like the same thing was shot with a flash.

Next, I tried to shoot the figure in the dark.

I shot the same thing using the iPhone's 'Night Mode' which enhances low-light photography. The shooting time is set to the maximum (1 second).

This one was taken with flash. By comparison, you can see that the night mode achieves natural brightness.

Then shoot the object in the dark.

Flash.

This time, I took a picture of the rotary at the station in a dark place. 0.5 times.

15 times.

When comparing the three models, it is easy to see differences in details, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max has an image that captures even more details. More detailed parts were emphasized when shooting in dark places or when using the flash.

After this, I plan to post an article about shooting videos with 3 models.
