Media Player is the successor to Groove Music , a player software developed by Microsoft that was installed in Windows 8 and Windows 10, and is a different system from Windows Media Player that was installed as standard up to Windows XP. As a result, Windows 11 Media Player did not have the CD ripping feature found in Windows Media Player.

With the March 2022 update, the media player can now play music CDs. And with v11.2203.30.0 of the media player deployed on Dev Channel on July 13, 2022, the ripping function of music CDs is supported.

The new media player is capable of ripping music CDs to

AAC / WMA / FLAC / ALAC formats at bit rates of 96kbps-320kbps. However, it seems that some of the functions that the old Windows Media Player has, such as ripping to MP3 format and support for variable bit rate, are not installed.

In addition, the file association has changed in Dev Channel. Video files that were previously associated with the 'Movies & TV' app are now associated with the media player as the default app.

In addition, in the update of Windows Insider Program Dev Channel performed on July 13, 2022, the camera application was also updated to Ver.2022.2206.2.0. In addition to supporting the capture mode of camera, video, document, and whiteboard, it also supports QR code and barcode scanning.
