The accident that caused the toilet to explode occurred at night on May 4, 2022 (Wednesday). According to the local fire department that responded to the site, lightning that fell on the apartment house reached the toilet in one room through the exhaust port and crushed the toilet.
The toilet crushed by lightning is below. The toilet seat is shattered without a trace, and the remains of a black-burnt toilet are scattered around.

According to the fire department, a small fire broke out behind the ceiling of the apartment building, but no one was injured.
In the event of a lightning strike, it seems safe to evacuate indoors, but as in this case, lightning may reach indoors through exhaust ports and water pipes. For this reason, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has warned , 'We recommend avoiding all water during thunderstorms. Do not shower, bathe, or wash dishes.'
