Valve updated its official blog on February 16th, stating that 'iFixit will be one of the authorized retailers of replacement parts for the Steam Deck and VR headsets Valve Index.' We have revealed that we will sell repair parts for Steam Deck through. Details are being adjusted, so it will be released again at a later date.
On the same day as this announcement, iFixit released a disassembled video of the pre-launch Steam Deck. Valve also released a disassembled video in October 2021, but iFixit has disassembled to the point where Valve says 'Don't do it'.

To disassemble Steam Deck, iFixit first asked Creative Electron, an X-ray device manufacturer, to take a picture of the inside of Steam Deck.
Start disassembly. First, use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the eight screws on the back of the Steam Deck.
Next, insert the blue plastic clip into the gap between the front and back of the main unit.
I was able to remove the back cover of the Steam Deck. IFixit describes it as 'simple' because it doesn't use glue or special screws.
However, Valve warns that if it is disassembled even once, it will be vulnerable to fall damage.
iFixit pointed out that the difference between the prototype that was previously disassembled by Valve and the commercial version of Steam Deck that was disassembled this time is 'I'm grateful that the parts are labeled.'
Next, iFixit focused on the fact that the analog stick can be removed by simply removing the three screws on each.
The analog stick reminds me of '
As mentioned above, it is said that the details of replacement parts are being adjusted, but Valve is also considering selling analog sticks.
The analog stick has a wire that stands out in red. This indicates that it has a built-in capacitive touch sensor that detects if your thumb is touching the stick.
Then, after removing the screw that secures the storage ...

Steam Deck also has a microSD card slot, so you can expand your storage without disassembling it.
Until the replacement of the analog stick and storage, it was the self-repair that Valve envisioned. IFixit will continue to unplug cables and screws and disassemble to a point not recommended by Valve.
Then, a haptics device supported by a meandering spring appeared. This is a part that vibrates like a speaker to provide a vibration function.
Looking at the above X-ray photograph, it is the following part.
The heat exhausted from the Steam Deck is the copper heat pipe that extends from the inside to the top of the main unit.
It is a cooling fan.
If you remove the heat pipe and fan, you can remove the motherboard with the CPU and memory. The specifications of Steam Deck are on the
Next is the battery. It's not impossible to replace the Steam Deck battery if you want to do it, but it seems difficult for general users because even iFixit has had trouble.
iFixit says, 'It is best to drain the battery to 25% or less in advance to prevent thermal runaway, apply heat to soften the adhesive, and then pry it open from the bottom to remove the adhesive. We recommend using
The display was the last one because of the procedure, but since the panel can be removed from the outside, it is not necessary to disassemble everything. The method is to warm the frame part a little first ...
You can remove it relatively easily by pulling it with a suction cup and peeling off the adhesive under the bezel.
iFixit said that the Steam Deck was completely disassembled and found to be 'the fact that it could be disassembled and then reassembled is a good sign that it can be repaired. I especially like it. Most of the parts are more modular than the average game console, and a single Phillips screwdriver can do the basic repairs. On the other hand, it's a shame that the battery is hard to remove. The repairability is 7 out of 10 points. '
