The ISS, which has been used for many years, has often been reported to have problems with cracks and air leaks due to deterioration of parts, and it has long been clear that operation will soon be stopped. NASA announced that the operation was originally expected to be suspended early, but with the intention of the Biden administration, the operation will be extended until 2030.

At the same time, NASA also announced plans to deploy the ISS for commercial use. It will be made available to private companies for research purposes such as deep space exploration and human experimentation. The final manned usage period will be set from March 2030, and the operation is scheduled to be suspended within the same year in 2030.

The orbital altitude of the ISS will be gradually lowered by January 2031, and it is expected that it will be crashed into the

spacecraft graveyard 'Point Nemo' within the same month. Point Nemo refers to a specific point in the South Pacific Ocean, the farthest point from all land, known as the Pole of Inaccessibility.

There is also a problem in the case of a crash, and if the solar activity becomes active, the atmosphere of the earth will expand and resistance to the ISS will increase, and there is a risk that the crash speed will decrease.

'We look forward to maximizing the profits we can make by 2030 while planning our transition as a commercial destination in the future,' said Robin Gatens, NASA's ISS Director.
