The world's largest potato weighing 7.9 kg is born, it is too big to be DNA tested

The world's largest potatoes have been harvested in New Zealand. The world's largest potato record so far

was 4.99 kg harvested in Nottinghamshire, England , but the potatoes harvested this time weigh 7.9 kg, which is about 1.6 times that amount. The giant harvested potatoes were sent for DNA testing in the laboratory for new Guinness World Records.

The world's largest potatoes were harvested by Colin Craig-Brown and Donna Brown on a small farm in New Zealand in late August 2021. The two named the giant potato 'Dag'.

The doug has a bumpy shape, and the surface is not pale yellow, but brown like a tree. Doug is so huge and strange that Colin instinctively asked Donna, 'Is this a potato?' And Donna immediately answered, 'Absolutely not.' Compared to ordinary potatoes, you can see how huge Doug is.

When we measured the weight of Doug with a scale, it turned out that the weight of Doug was 7.9 kg, which greatly exceeded the Guinness World Records of 4.99 kg.

So, Colin read the 128-page application guide on the official Guinness World Records website, filled out an online application form, sent photos and videos of potatoes, and conducted agricultural research at a company that runs a large farm. I applied for third-party verification at Wilcox Farm.

However, the Guinness World Records Accreditation Committee called for further evidence to prove that the potatoes Colin harvested were really potatoes. Therefore, it was decided that a DNA test would be conducted at a research institute in Scotland. DNA data of more than 2000 kinds of potatoes are stored in this laboratory, and it seems that the results will be obtained within 24 hours after receiving the sample.

According to Mr. Colin, Doug is slightly lighter than immediately after harvesting. 'Dag has lost water from the traces of a farming fork, and although it looks the same, it's getting lighter,' said Colin.
