Released by HTC in June 2021, 'Vive Focus 3' is a stand-alone VR headset that allows you to enjoy VR content by itself without connecting to a PC or smartphone, and comes with a controller with a tracking function. ..
HTC's newly announced Wrist Tracker for Vive Focus 3 is a device that can be worn on the wrist like a wristwatch to track the position and angle from the wrist to the elbow. It's 85% more compact than the Vive Focus 3 controller and weighs about half, 63g.
Unlike the Vive Focus 3 controller, which has multiple buttons and can be seen on the VR screen, the Wrist Tracker is not shown on the screen and is mainly used to accurately capture the user's movements and postures. Therefore, it is possible to use it for VR training where it is important whether the user is in the correct posture, such as fire extinguishing training using a virtual fire extinguisher.
It can also be used by attaching it to objects other than the human body. If you click the image below, you can see how the Wrist Tracker is actually attached to the model of the gun and used with a GIF animation (16.8MB).
The VIVE Wrist Tracker is scheduled to be released in the United States in early 2022, and the price is 129 dollars (about 15,000 yen). The development in Japan is unknown at the time of writing the article.
