Board game 'Puerto Rico 20' expansion 3 'Buccaneer' play report that also utilizes pirate looting, assault, and kidnapping
A board game 'Puerto Rico ' that promotes island development in the Spanish colony of Puerto Rico by mastering the seven roles of 'pioneer,' 'master,' 'architect,' 'director,' 'merchant,' 'captain,' and 'gold vein digging.' The new and Japanese version of ' Puerto Rico 20 ' is said to include all the extensions that have appeared in the past.
Two additional components are the 'Buccaneer' role card and the 'Portrait of Buccaneer' tile. Players can choose 'Buccaneer' as well as the other seven roles.
The feature of 'Puerto Rico' is that the selected role has 'privilege' and 'action', and the privilege can be obtained only by the selected player, but the action can be executed by all players. 'Buccaneer' is a particularly characteristic role in which the player who selects the role executes one of the four roles of 'pirate', 'predatory', 'attack', and 'kidnapping'.
There are no additional building tiles, so play with the basic set, expansion 1, and expansion 2. There are 12 types of buildings in the basic set and expansion 1 except for the 'big building', and the ones with the same cost are prepared, so we will decide which building to use at each cost in sequence. Expansion 2 can be installed without choosing.
The initial state of this play is like this.
The first round is 4th. Player A, who was the first player, chose 'Architect', so he used up his 3 doubloons to build a 'chapel'. The 'Chapel' is a building that is effective during the production phase, and you can get 1 doubloon by placing workers and 1 victory point by placing aristocrats. With this, the aim is to get doubloons in the first half and victory points in the second half.
The hard part of 4th place is that there are many cases where you have already taken the role you want to choose. Although it is sober here, I secured 1 doubloon by digging gold veins ....
In the next round, Player C used 'Buccaneer'. The action was 'abduction', which captured the master. Players who choose Buccaneer will receive 3 doubloons from the bank as a ransom when subsequent players in their turn play captive roles. On the other hand, if no one chooses a captive role, the player who chose Buccaneer at the end of the round will play the captive role. A player who has selected Buccaneer once cannot select Buccaneer again until another player becomes Buccaneer.
The 'Portrait of Buccaneer' tile is kept by the last player to choose Buccaneer, but during 'Kidnapping' it is placed on top of the captive role card and when someone chooses a captive role. If you move it to your hand when you play a role, you can see at a glance that the prisoners of war are not out of the options by lining up with other role cards, and 'Now this role is a prisoner of war. It may be easier to grasp the situation because it is shown.
Produces corn during the 'Director' phase. And the effect of the chapel earns 1 doubloon.
With the saved doubloons, we will build a 'construction bureau' to reduce construction costs and aim to produce tobacco.
Player A launched an 'attack' in Buccaneer as he watched the increase in people at the employment agency, hoping to put people in tobacco plantations and shelters. 'Attack' is an action that removes the workers in the employment agency, leaving the minimum number of players, and can place up to 3 frames on the island. At this time, it cannot be placed in the harbor, but it will be very effective if there is a vacancy in the farm or building.
Started tobacco production while struggling to secure the number of people. In addition, reach for coffee.
It became possible to produce coffee, but due to the timing difference between production and shipping, there was a situation where tobacco could not be shipped and returned to supply, so we built a storage so as not to waste the product.
I'm running out of money, so I'm riding 2 doubloons and choosing a good gold mine digger to prepare for the next.
This time, Player C carries out 'looting' in Buccaneer. 'Pillage' is an action in which all the product pieces in the store are returned to the supply and one victory point is obtained for each piece. At this time, there were two products lined up in the store, so I got two victory points.
While looking sideways at the neighbor's earning, I managed to save 5 doubloons at hand and placed -1 doubloons with architect privileges, 1 doubloons on the architect, -1 doubloons with quarry effect, and aristocrats. When building a 'big building' with the effect of the Construction Bureau-2 doubloons are combined to build a 'city hall' of 10 doubloons.
Player B has done a 'pirate' in Buccaneer. A 'pirate' is one in which you can remove all of the cargo ships and store up to three of them in your port.
The hand has evolved like this. 'City Hall' has a bonus that you can get 1 victory point for each building that is not a production building, so we will build more and more buildings aiming for the goal.
In the final round, I thought about choosing an architect to build the last building, but since it was taken first, I 'looted' in Buccaneer, sold the products of the store, and added 2 victory points. This finally led to additional points.
The result is 63 points.
However, Player C, who built the 'Guild Hall' and 'Customs' by maximizing the factory bonus with high-mix low-volume production from the middle stage, won with 66 points.
The additional component of this expansion 3 is '1 role card + 1 tile', which is a small amount, but the expansion of the range of play due to the addition of new roles is considerable. Shops that tend to get clogged without a 'factory' are reset, and the role play is fixed at the end of the round due to 'abduction'. You may be able to go around.
In Expansion 1, there is a building called 'Library' that doubles the effect of the privilege of each phase, but since 'Pirate', 'Pillage', 'Raid', and 'Kidnapping' in Buccaneer are not 'privileges', 'Library' You can't get up to 6 worker pieces with the effect of.
Next, let's play with the newly added 4th expansion 'Festival'.
