Howard University students say dorms filled with rats, mold

Jasmine Juff, a sophomore at Howard University in Washington, DC, has been suffering from coughing, headaches and other illnesses since September 2021 due to mold growing in dormitories on American television. I appealed to the broadcasting station CNN. Mr. Joff reported the mold problem to the university in September, but he seems to have not dealt with it at all.
Therefore, Mr. Juff and other university dormitory students started protests in October to stay overnight at the facilities of the Blackburn Center in the university and on the premises of the university. According to CNN, the background to this problem is that 'universities with many black students, such as Howard University, tend to run out of funds compared to universities with many white students.' 'This is a positive neglect of students. The university should have had the opportunity to repair the dormitory,' Juff, a spokeswoman for Blackburn Takeover, told the dormitory. He pointed out that not only can the wireless LAN not be used, but there are also many problems such as cockroach and rat outbreaks and water leaks.
If you search for the hashtag '#BlackburnTakeover' on social media, you'll see a ton of photos and videos of the miserable living environment of Howard University's dormitories.
A Twitter user reported that he slipped and fell due to a leak from a water pipe.

Mold is growing at a tremendous rate in the dormitory facilities and student personal belongings, probably because of the humidity.

To protest against such a harsh environment, Juff and his colleagues set up sleeping bags and tents on the campus of the university and began to sleep there. It is reported that about 100 students are participating in this activity at the time of writing the article.

After seeing all the post from #BlackburnTakeover , I have to contextualize the issues students have had at Howard because it is truly inhumane what undergraduates go through. In response to the protest, Howard University President Wayne Frederick and the dormitory manager said, 'We met with student leaders in the protest and heard the request.' A university spokeswoman also said in a statement, 'We have begun a dialogue to discuss the proposed requirements and address their concerns. Our goal is to listen to student concerns. Finding a way to lean forward. We may not meet all the demands, but we remain open to dialogue and resolution. '
