GR III the focal length of the' was changed to about 40mm (35 mm format equivalent) ' GR IIIx appeared from' the 2021 October 1 (Friday). Since I was able to touch such a GR III x a little earlier, I took a picture and checked the performance by actually taking a snapshot or taking a picture with the iPhone 12 Pro Max after checking the appearance. rice field.

◆ I tried taking snapshots with GR IIIx
Ricoh's GR series is known as a masterpiece of snapshot photography, and is good at capturing moments that you find interesting while walking around the city. The new GR IIIx has a different focal length from the previous GR series, but is equipped with many features suitable for snapshots such as 'small and lightweight body ', ' high-speed start-up & high-speed autofocus ', and ' optical image stabilization'. So I tried taking snapshots while actually walking around the shopping street. If there is no note, the photos appearing in this article are taken without exposure compensation, left to the camera in program mode, and uploaded without any editing other than resizing.

When I actually took a snapshot, thanks to the lightweight body, I didn't have to hold it with both hands, and I was able to take pictures with one hand without breaking the walking rhythm. In addition, high-speed autofocus and automatic focus symmetry judgment allow you to accurately shoot the scenery you want to capture if you leave it to the camera. In the following movie, you can see how you actually take a snapshot while walking without stopping.

Taking a snapshot with 'GR IIIx' almost without stopping-YouTube

With a large high-quality camera, take a picture of the subject by following the steps of 'find the subject → stop and hold the camera to look into the finder → select the focus target → press the shutter button halfway to focus → release the shutter'. However, the GR IIIx has a function to focus and shoot at a preset distance when the shutter button is pressed completely, so when taking a snap shot with the GR IIIx, 'Find the subject → Camera You can shoot with the procedure of 'pointing → release the shutter'.

Also, since the lens mounted on the GR IIIx is a single focus lens, you don't have to use your head for operations such as 'turning the zoom ring to determine the angle of view', and you can shoot in a flowing manner at the moment you want to shoot. ..

In addition, the focal length of the lens mounted on the GR IIIx is 40mm (35mm format equivalent), so it is possible to shoot 'things that you are paying attention to' rather than shooting 'landscapes'. Even those who have the GR series so far can enjoy a fresh shooting experience.

Even when bright and dark areas are mixed as shown below, you can shoot without causing overexposure or underexposure. If you leave it to the camera, it is unlikely that you will end up with a failed photo, so I was able to immerse myself in shooting while switching subjects one after another.

All of the above pictures were taken while walking in the daytime, but since the GR IIIx is equipped with optical image stabilization, even for dark subjects such as 'bus terminal at night', you need to prepare a tripod etc. as long as you stop. You can easily shoot without any.

GR IIIx also has the feature of 'fast startup'. Even if a photo opportunity comes when the power is off, it can be started instantly, so it is unlikely that you will miss a photo opportunity. You can check the actual startup speed of GR IIIx in the following movie.

◆ Rice shooting confrontation with GR III x and iPhone 12 Pro Max
Since I was able to realize the high snapshot shooting ability, next I will shoot the same subject with the 'iPhone 12 Pro Max ' and GR III x, which are said to have the highest camera performance among the smartphones available at the time of writing the article, and compare the photos. I will try it.

First of all, I took a picture of pasta at a restaurant illuminated by bright warm colors. With the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the pasta on the plate was clearly captured to the back.

The picture of pasta taken with GR IIIx looks like this. The finish is darker and warmer than the photos taken with the iPhone 12 Pro Max. By focusing near the center of the photo, the back of the plate was out of focus, creating a three-dimensional effect.

Next, I took a picture of the pasta rolled up with a fork. With the iPhone 12 Pro Max, this is the maximum distance.

Below is a photo taken in macro mode on the GR III x in the same situation. With the GR IIIx, you can get closer to the subject up to about 0.12m from the tip of the lens by setting it to macro mode, so you can shoot pasta larger than the iPhone 12 Pro Max. However, as a result of shooting with the camera, the photo is darker than the iPhone 12 Pro Max, so you need to decide to set a higher exposure yourself.

This time, I took a picture of pork kakuni at a restaurant illuminated by dark, warm-colored lighting. The photos taken with the iPhone 12 Pro Max are bright despite the dark lighting. However, even if it gets as close as possible, the distance to Kakuni is far.

In the photo taken in the macro mode of GR IIIx, I got closer to the kakuni and the kakuni was captured in a large size.

Now let's compare the vertical composition photos. When I took a picture of Wiener Coffee with iPhone 12 Pro Max, I was able to take a bright and clear picture of the whole.

In the photo taken from the same direction with GR IIIx, the surrounding landscape is beautifully blurred and the presence of coffee is emphasized. However, since it is a dark image, I feel that I need to adjust the exposure myself.

◆ Night shooting showdown between GR III x and iPhone 12 Pro Max
Next, I took a picture of the night scenery with GR III x and iPhone 12 Pro Max. First of all, when I took a picture of the approach to the shrine illuminated by the light with the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the light of the light that was close to white was actually reflected in green.

When I shot from the same position with the GR IIIx, I was able to shoot with colors close to what I saw with the naked eye, such as a light close to white, a gray approach, and a red lantern.

Below is a photo taken with the iPhone 12 Pro Max at a position closer to the light than the above photo.

There is flare around the light.

When I shot from the same position with the GR IIIx, I was able to shoot with less flare.

This time, I took a picture of the fire station on the side of a dark road. When I took a picture with iPhone 12 Pro Max, it automatically switched to night shooting mode, and I was able to shoot quite brightly even in dark areas.

When shooting with GR IIIx, the result is that dark areas appear dark and bright areas appear bright. The taste of the work seems to be different, but if you want to shoot the subject brightly even at night, the iPhone 12 Pro Max is advantageous.

In the picture below taken after 7:00 pm, the iPhone 12 Pro Max's feature of 'capturing bright areas that should be dark' is strongly reflected. Actually, the shaded area is pitch black, but it is shot as bright as in the daytime.

The photos taken from the same position on the GR IIIx were able to reproduce the dark atmosphere of the night. If you want to record the subject, you can use the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and if you want to reproduce the brightness close to reality, you can use the GR IIIx.

◆ Summary
When I actually took pictures with the GR IIIx, it showed the performance that I could call a masterpiece of snapshots when taking snapshots while taking a walk. In addition, it is possible to take pictures with colors that are close to reality even when taking pictures at restaurants or at night. It's small and compact, so it's easy to carry around and you can always carry it with you like a smartphone. This camera is also recommended for people who want to take high-quality pictures while walking around.

GR IIIx is scheduled to be released on October 1, 2021 (Friday), and at the time of article creation, you can make a reservation at Amazon.co.jp for 118,000 yen including tax.
