Air India data breach impacts 4.5 million customers
Air India announced on May 21 that SITA , a service provider that handles personal information of passengers, was attacked by a cyber attack and leaked the personal information of about 4.5 million customers. Air India has announced that it will affect customers who use Air India between August 26, 2011 and February 3, 2021.
The leaked information includes name, date of birth, contact information, passport information, etc., but credit card information and passwords are not affected. In addition, Air India has announced that credit card CVV / CVC numbers are not affected as they are not stored by SITA. Air India also states that it is emailing affected customers and investigating the entire case.
In addition to Air India, it is known that personal information was leaked from Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways, Lufthansa German Airlines and Singapore Airlines in the cyber attack on SITA.
India Today, an English-language newspaper in India, said that Air India announced later than other companies: 'Most companies have disclosed data breaches because India does not have proper data protection laws and regulations on data processing are loose. We do not notify our customers or notify our customers. '
