I tried touching the mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera 'α1' that Sony packed with the latest technology

As a full-size mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera, Sony released the 'α1 ', which has higher speed and higher resolution than the previous series and is compatible with 8K30p even for movie shooting, on March 19, 2021 (Friday). The camera market is struggling due to the momentum of smartphones, but I actually touched on what the professional models introduced there are.

The 'α1' set looks like this, and includes explanatory documents, a main unit, a battery, a charger, a strap, an eyepiece cup, a cable holder, and a USB cable.

The front of the main body. The orange color of the mount, which is common to the α series, stands out.

On the left side, various connection ports were covered with a lid that could be tightly sealed. It features an Ethernet port to which a LAN cable can be connected and a full-size HDMI port instead of a mini size. In addition, it is possible to connect to shooting, playback, Wi-Fi, etc. by USB power supply using the USB Type-C port.

This is the back.

The eyepiece cup is removed.

The monitor is a tilt LCD and can be moved downward by about 41 degrees.

Once pulled out, it can move upward about 107 degrees.

The menu has a completely redesigned structure with the α7S III.

On the right side, there are two slots that support both

SD cards and CF express Type A memory cards.

The top surface where dials and buttons are lined up.

The bottom looks like this.

It weighs 782g including the battery and strap.

When the SEL2470GM (FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM), which is a large-diameter standard zoom lens, was attached, it weighed 1719g including the hood and cap. The weight of the container used to place the camera has been removed.

Below, I basically left the detailed settings to the camera in 'AUTO' mode and took them out to various places to shoot. Since the original resolution is 8640 x 5760 pixels and the file size is huge, 8MB to 26MB, the image after clicking is reduced to 4096 pixels on the long side, which is close to 4K resolution, after removing the EXIF information.

The video I shot looks like this. It's a handheld shooting only that doesn't use any equipment such as a tripod or microphone, and the following is like standing up and holding the camera.

The following is taken with sitting and almost no movement.

The following video was taken while walking and chasing the deer as it started to run. Since the camera is pointed a little sideways, the content reflects the vertical movement of the photographer.

It is a camera that realizes that it is packed with extremely excellent performance even if it is used lightly, and it is convincing that the news release says, 'We will respond to the evolving professional creativity with the latest technology.'

For example, the distortion of moving objects during electronic shutter shooting has been suppressed by about 1.5 times compared to the conventional model, and the maximum continuous shooting is 30 shots per second.

The coverage range of autofocus is about 92% of the imaging range, and the detection ability is also improved by 30% compared to the conventional one, so unlike the number of continuous shots, these do not appear on the screen as specific numbers, but they are used. I get the impression that 'I came back from my training and became stronger once or twice.' These points are a big benefit for amateur photographers as well as professionals.

For professionals who have to think about delivery, the fact that the amount of wireless data transfer is about 3.5 times that of the 'α9II' should be a considerable strength.

It's packed with everything that has already been cultivated in the α series, so it feels great when you hold it. 1.7kg with a lens is many times heavier than a smartphone that fits in your hand, but you can hold the grip firmly, so you don't feel the weight that much.

The 'α1' (ILCE-1) is sold at the Sony store for 880,000 yen including tax, with only the main unit and a 3-year manufacturer's warranty.
