Panasonic's full-size mirrorless single-lens camera, LUMIX S series 'DC-S1' & 'DC-S1R' review

Panasonic has long been developing the LUMIX

G series as a mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera with interchangeable lenses, but the sensor size has begun to expand the full size S series instead of the microfour SARS .

I used a set of cameras and touched them in various ways to find out what kind of camera is the S series, which is different from the G series.

This time, the lens kit that LUMIX S 24-105mm F4 MACRO OIS is attached to the body of 'DC-S1' and 'DC-S1R', the telephoto lens 'LUMIX S PRO 70-200mm F4 OIS', single focus lens 'LUMIX S PRO' I was able to borrow a series of 50mm F1.4 series.

The contents of the DC-S1 lens kit include the body and battery, manual, lens, neck strap and various cables.

The battery charger is divided into four parts: 'A cable that connects the outlet and the AC adapter', 'AC adapter', and 'A cable that connects the AC adapter and the charger to the USB Type-C cable,' 'the charger body.'

The front of the body looks like this. The '

premium red line ' on the shoulders attracts attention.

The back is like this. The monitor is about 3.2 million dots in 3.2 type.

Mode dial and drive mode dial on the left shoulder. The mode dial can switch nine types of shooting modes, including iA (Intelligent Auto) / P (Programmed Auto) / A (Aperture Priority Auto) / S (Shutter Priority Auto). The drive mode dial switches between single-shot shooting, continuous shooting, and self-timer.

The 3-axis tilt monitor supports high-angle and low-angle shooting.

Heaven face is like this. The shape of the power switch and the dial arrangement are quite different from the G series.

SD card slot and XQD card slot on the right side. Although there is a 'notebook PC with a built-in SD card slot', since a 'notebook PC with a built-in XQD card slot' is almost unheard of, it is quite helpful to be able to use an SD card in terms of convenience.

Various interfaces on the left side. The covers for “Earphone & Microphone” and “USB Type-C Port & HDMI Port” are divided.

The bottom looks like this.

When arranged with 'DC-S1' and 'DC-S1R'.

The difference in appearance is only the logo part.

Equipped with a full-size CMOS sensor. S1 is 24.2 M of effective pixels, S 1 R is 47.3 M of effective pixels.

The rear side of the lens connected there looks like this.

Battery, SD card measured weight is 1024g. The photo is S1, but S1R was also 1024g.

'LUMIX S 24-105mm F4 MACRO OIS' bundled with the lens kit is 749g with hood and with cap.

The measured weight when the body cap and lens rear cap are removed and connected is 1752 g.

In addition, 'LUMIX S PRO 50mm F1.4' was 1039g.

This lens has a brightness of 1.4 f / F.

The focus ring close to the lens tip has a mechanism in which the distance indicator appears when it is slid.

The “LUMIX S PRO 70-200 mm F4 OIS” weighs 1294 g.

Optical camera shake correction 'OIS that performs shake detection at 4000-250 times per second on the 24-105 mm and this 70-200 mm, and corrects not only large and small high-frequency shake but also large and slow low-frequency shake 'Is mounted.

It feels like this when you carry the S1 equipped with 24-105 mm. The size of the main unit is about 148.9 mm x about 110 mm x about 96.7 mm, which is slightly larger than the LUMIX G series and Canon EOS R and Nikon Z series of the same full size mirrorless as this unit. Because it can be squeezed, the impression that it is easy to handle for the weight.

However, since it is easy to handle but it is heavy, it is important to hold it firmly with both hands when shooting.

Below are some examples of taking the camera and taking it. Because the size of the original file is huge, the size of the thumbnail is uniform at 560px horizontally and the image clicked is reduced to 25% of the original size.

First, I attached the same lens to S1 and S1R, and arranged the photos taken at almost the same angle. S1R removes the 'optical low pass filter' whose resolution falls instead of suppressing moiré and false color, and has become the specification shaken to the high resolution direction. Since the performance of S1 is not inferior, if it is used at the center of 'Town Take', it should be usable in S1 without any loss.

Next, I compared how it was at F1.4 setting and F16 setting how much the 50mm blur is. Each has a large difference in the depth of field, and with F1.4, the depth of field is shallow and the image is considerably blurred except where it is in focus. On the other hand, F16 has a deep depth of field, and the camera can focus on the front and back of the in-focus distance to some extent.

Besides, I tried shooting variously while wandering around Kyoto.

Kyoto City Zoo-Humboldt Penguin (S1R + 24-105 mm)

I like this when shooting at night.

Expo City giant Ferris wheel, of Redhorse OSAKA WHEEL was looked up.

Sun tower

Redhorse OSAKA WHEEL and Osaka Monorail.

A monorail that stops due to a point failure at the Expo Memorial Park Station and turns on the red light on the top of the top of the vehicle, whether the timing is good or bad.

A police car ran through the central loop of the foot.

Lastly, there isn't a lot of opportunity to take pictures of food with this class of camera, but since the 24-105 mm lens seemed to be fine with a minimum focal length of 30 cm, I shot a classic WW burger with a freshness burger I tried.

Since the 50mm lens has a minimum shooting distance of 44cm, it is somewhat difficult to eat on the table.

The video looks like this. Both lenses use 24-105 mm.

In addition, as for the price at Panasonic official mail order site, DC-S1 body single item tax-included 338,990 yen , DC-S1M (lens kit) includes tax 459,950 yen single-piece DC-S1R body tax-included 50,990 yen , DC -621950 yen including tax-S1 RM (lens kit) .

As compared with the price, DC-G9L (lens kit) of LUMIX G series includes 313,030 yen including tax and DC-GH5M (lens kit) includes 280,670 yen including tax, so S1 goes over the price with the body only It becomes.

In addition, in the full size mirrorless one eye of other manufacturers that appeared in the latest, Canon EOS R (body single item) is tax-included 256,500 yen , EOS RP (body single item) is 173,340 yen including tax , Nikon Z 7 (body Tax-included 407,700 yen separately , Z 6 (body separately) tax-included 27,2700 yen . Although the Z7 outperforms the S1, it should be compared with the S1R considering the positioning of the model, so the Panasonic machine is still slightly higher.

Camera & lens performance is very high, and it is an excellent model that can be used almost all rounds in photography and video shooting just by buying a lens kit, and you can cut out the world differently from shooting with a smartphone camera There is no doubt that. On the other hand, because it is also a price setting according to its performance, it is not a price that can not be said 'If you get lost if you get lost it is OK', so be sure to touch the real thing when you feel it Please check in detail and make sure that you are ready for the next few years. If so, it should probably be the model that will enhance the shooting life from now on.
