Stable releases of Chrome, including new features and security fixes, have been on a 6-week cycle for over a decade. However, in a Chromium blog post dated March 4, 2021, Google announced that it would shorten its release cycle to 'every four weeks.'

The release cycle reduction will take place in Chrome 94 and later in the third quarter of 2021. The stable version of Google Chrome 89 has just been released on March 3rd.

Some people may be worried that the shortened release cycle will quickly remove their favorite features or cause problems. In anticipation of such cases of 'short release cycle is a problem', Google has made available an 'Extended Stable option' that allows a release cycle of 8 weeks. The Extended Stable option is for corporate administrators and Chromium users. In addition, security fixes and new function additions are not necessarily made every 8 weeks, and important corrections etc. are made every 2 weeks.

Google also said that Chrome OS users will be offered multiple stable release options.
