I tried to check the radio wave compatibility status of each country with 'Cell Tower Distribution' that visualizes radio wave base stations around the world

' Cell Tower Distribution ' is a web application that visualizes the positions of

base stations around the world as particles of light. I actually used 'Cell Tower Distribution' to check the radio wave compatibility status in various regions.

A world map is displayed at the top of the top page of 'Cell Tower Distribution'. On the world map, base stations around the world are displayed in white light based on the information in the base station database ' OpenCelliD ' that is open to the public for free. On the right side of the map, the number of base stations around the mouse pointer is displayed for each type of base station such as ' (4G) LTE ', ' (3G) UMTS ', ' (2G) GSM ', and ' (2G) CDMA '. ..

When I try to display the main island of Japan, it looks like this. You can see that base stations are concentrated in big cities such as Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka.

When I expand the center of Tokyo, it looks like this. Of the 46,267 base stations, 34,931 are compatible with 4G, accounting for about three-quarters of the total.

Expanding San Francisco,

where many giant IT companies are based, looks like this. It can be confirmed that about 36% of the total are 3G compatible base stations, and about 5% of 2G compatible base stations also exist.

Base station information in central London, the capital of England, looks like this. Of the 36,438 base stations, 23,477 base stations, which is about 64%, are 3G-compatible base stations, and there are 5,685 (about 16%) 2G-compatible base stations.

Seoul, the capital of South Korea, looks like this. There are only four 2G-compatible base stations in total, and there are 27,700 4G-compatible base stations, which is about 83% of the total.

In addition, under the map display of 'Cell Tower Distribution', a technical explanation by developer Alper Chinal is written, ' Brotli ' as a database compression algorithm, ' Leaflet ' as a map display library It is said that it is adopted.
