French market research company Institut français d'opinion publique (IFOP) conducted a social survey on ``gender, sexuality, and sexual health.'' We conducted a survey of 3,018 French women over the age of 18 on various aspects of women's lifestyles, including their bra-wearing habits.
In a survey conducted in March 2020, before the lockdown was implemented, 3% of women answered that they 'didn't wear a bra at all' or 'almost never wore a bra' regarding their recent life, but In April 2020, during the height of the lockdown, it was 8%, and in June 2020, after the lockdown, it was 7%. Based on this result, IFOP claims that ``the lifestyle of not wearing a bra has become established due to the lockdown.''
IFOP's research also revealed that the trend of going braless due to lockdown is particularly pronounced among young women. In March 2020, 4% of women under 25 said they went without a bra, which jumped to 20% in April 2020, and calmed down slightly to 18% in June 2020. . The graph below shows the percentage of women of each age group who answered 'I spend my time without a bra' in April 2020 during the lockdown. It can be seen that women aged 18 to 25 are far more likely to wear no bra than women of other ages.
When asked why they want to go without a bra, 53% of women under 25 said it was because it was comfortable. Regarding feminism, 32% of people under 25 said that going braless is related to a desire to go against sexual perceptions of women's breasts.
Jean-Philippe Dubrulle, director of IFOP, commented: ``The end of the special lockdown situation was probably the real opportunity for the bra-less boom.''
