This is actually a "hole" that was exhibited at the museum. It is an Indian-born sculptor Anish Kapoor in his work, "Descent into Limbo ( Hengoku was named the fall to)".
The hole was 8 feet deep (about 2.4 m) and was painted with "Vantablack (Vanta Black)" which is said to be "the world's blackest substance".
