The source code of popular e-mail software "Eudora" at the dawn of the Internet will be released

Computer History Museum Makes the Eudora Email Client Source Code Available to the Public

Eudora was developed by Steve Donner who worked as an official at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1988. Eudora at that time was software for Macintosh, developed in C language.

After that, in 1991QualcommHas purchased Eudora's license from the University of Illinois and started distributing it for free. Two years later in 1993IBM PCAnd the successor versions that can be used on both Macintosh are sold, and a paid version has appeared. After that, we decided to evolve, such as becoming available on Windows, but in 2006 QUALCOMM canceled Eudora's development on the grounds that the policy with other projects in the company no longer matched.

CHM seems to have continued negotiations with QUALCOMM for 5 years to open Eudora's source code. As a result, QUALCOMM relinquishes ownership, trademark, copyright and domain name of Eudora's source code to CHM.

The source code released by CHM is the last version released before being open sourced, the Windows version is "Eudora 7.1", the Mac version is "Eudora 6.2.4". Source code isBSD licenseIt is open to the public, and it is possible to use it not only for personal use but also for commercial use.
