"Viking House Project" where high school students build a house every year

At Forrest Grove High School in Oregon State, for 40 years, efforts are undertaken "high school students build a house". The house built with this effort will eventually be sold and its profit will be the material cost of the next year's house.

The initiative was called "Viking House Project" and in 1974 Bert Hansen started. Currently, Chris Higin Bozam who changed from the construction industry to the teacher is taking over.
According to the students who participated in the project, unless they first received classes on woodworking and architecture, this class can not be accepted.
The time spent on building is 6 hours to 10 hours per week. Sometimes I spend a weekend, but since experienced work is not fun, experienced staff said. In the case of this experienced person, it seems that 58 hours have been spent outside classes.
Looking at the official website, you can see what the students are doing from foundation work.
Cut the building material with a round saw.
Wall raising work.
Lift the heavy beam.
According to the student who experienced, the thing with the most fulfillment was when I put this skeleton of the roof. This framework was made separately and carried by truck, and two experts and a few volunteers set up it, but it seems that it gets "real home" like at once when this rides.
The students are in charge of interiors as well as outside.
With over 40 years of history, completion has never been delayed, nor is there a house left for sale. When he did not notice that the people who went around looking at the house were "a house built by a high school student", he seems to feel a little proud.
