5 points to help you write a novel

Even if I suddenly think 'I want to write a novel like this' and start writing it, it is quite difficult to make it readable. After all, RescueTime summarizes how people who can write novels make finished products, what is necessary to maintain their motivation, and points that may be hints.

Are you ready for National Novel Writing Month? | RescueTime Blog
http://blog.rescuetime.com/2013/10/23/are-you-ready-for-national-novel-writing-month/

This is a compilation of data from people who participated in the ' National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) ' event, 'Let's write a 50,000-character novel within a one-month deadline,' and the top 30% of those who spend most of their time writing. A summary of the trends of what the people who entered were doing.

◆ 1: Eat supper exactly

by

Nancy White

Those who spent a lot of time writing were resting between 17:00 and 20:00. It may be better to decide that the meal should be 'eat at this time' rather than immersing yourself in writing until the meal is postponed.

◆ 2: 'Night' if you want to concentrate on writing

by

Konstantin Klein

The time available for writing varies from person to person, but the tendency of the top people is that the number of words written during the time period from 21:00 to midnight was large. Since we have a premise that we will not sleep until we reach this number of words today, we need to keep in mind that we will finish the quota for the day before going to bed and not carry it over to the next day.

◆ 3: Make a day for the 'writing marathon'

by

Peter Mooney

The top 15% of people have created 'more than 5 hours of writing' for at least one day during the month. The person who wrote the longest time wrote more than 10 hours a day, but RescueTime cautions that it is better not to overdo it.

◆ 4: Limit the time spent on email, chat, and SNS

by Rob Boudon

It's difficult to completely ignore emails, but people who spend a lot of time writing tend to avoid using emails and chats as much as possible. Compared to the data of people who wrote shortly, the time spent on email and chat was 14.7% less, and the time spent on SNS was 13.9% less.

◆ 5: Gathering with friends who have the same goals

by Bread for the World

The fourth is 'Restrict SNS', but it does not mean that SNS is completely turned down. Looking at the tendency of people who spend a lot of time writing on SNS, it seems that they spent twice as much time at NaNoWriMo.org as other people. NaNoWriMo.org has a forum where people who are attending the same event can interact with each other, which is thought to have helped maintain motivation.

In addition to NaNoWriMo.rog, other sites that have motivated me to write are Write or Die 2 , which drives me to write 'I have to write!', 750 Words , which encourages me to write 750 words every day, and all the characters in the novel. BabyNames.com , which helps give you a full name, you can see a new cat image every time you write a fixed number of words (minimum 100 words) Written? Kitten! , Word Hippo , which allows you to search for synonyms, antonyms, rhyming words, and translated words.

By the way, in the case of NaNoWriMo in 2012, the average number of words written by the participants was 1667 words a day. The total writing time for all members is 3097 hours, of which 70% is occupied by the top 30% of participants. The person who wrote the most time was writing for less than 139 hours.

The distribution of writing time for one month is like this, the writing time decreases every day in the week after the event starts, and it repeats that it will decrease again over the week after reviving on the weekend. The event period was from November 1st to 30th, of which November 22nd was Thanksgiving, so most people were absent from writing.
