Luggage that increases and decreases during Charlie Mann's long journey and its reason

Prepare for the trip is fun, do not you pack your bags with bags? If you go on a trip then you will not have to use it. As the journey proceeds, unnecessary luggage will decrease. Not only do we reduce it, we will also buy the necessary packages. The traveler who keeps moving always has to think variously.

Hello,Takuya Sudo @ circle around the world bicycle @ Charridermanis. Eight months have passed since my trip to Canada began at the end of September last year. Although my departure was perfect, recently trouble came out, so I received emergency supplies in Colombia. There were luggage that I reduced during the past 8 months, and I added a lot of baggage so I tried collecting it.

◆ Receive luggage in Colombia
From around a month ago I got what I needed for online shopping and prepared luggage to be translated into Spanish. I was thinking about receiving in Mexico, but timing did not match. I had planned to use an airplane to South America, so I received it in Colombia. I was also afraid to increase my luggage before flight and worry about excess fee. When I asked my parents 'send me on Friday', I was in a rainy season with "I thought it was next Friday". Fortunately the cargo was done also on Saturday, so I confirmed the arrangement of the luggage and flew to Colombia. I am going to Bogotá. Luggage to Medellin.

In Bogoda I finished miscellaneous chores with my 4-day stay and ran to Medellín for 6 days. It took longer than I thought, but I arrived at Medellin on Sunday. It seems that Columbia has arrived when tracking luggage on the Internet. I just wanted to worry about "Writing the address properly?" "Can you make a post office in this country?", So I decided to go to the post office on Monday. Even if my package has not arrived, I wanted to consult about it. Then, what kind of package arrived. If you say joy at this time. I was satisfied to be able to receive luggage at exquisite timing.

It was taken over by the central post office of Medellin in the second city of Colombia. "Portal Oficial de 4-72"Is a Japanese post office.

We paid 5000 Colombian peso (about $ 2.8) fee and received the package.

Check the package at the post office.

This time I used SAL (Economy Airlines), but it was 9800 yen in Japan from Colombia with a 5 kg classification. You can also track here at the post office in Colombia. Entering the parcel number in "No. de guia / Orden de Servicio" ...

The tracking result comes out like this. I had stopped at Bogoda, so I thought that I had arrived at Medellín.

I could follow up on the website of Japan Post in the same way.

The primary objective of this supply was tires. There are of course bicycle tires overseas, but if you put on a heavy bicycle with a touring specification, putting a bad tire on it will be useless in a day. As we are repeating these failures, we already have 30 tires we used for our trip. Just this time I was able to supply well, so South America will be fine with this.

Schwalbe's marathon plus sent me.

Schwalbe's marathon who ran for about 17,600 kilometers from Zambia in Africa. As the sidewall burst in Costa Rica, I was first aid and ran. I sandwich the sidewall of the old tire from the inside, so that the tube pops out and it does not puncture.

An old tire where a cream colored puncture prevention layer was visible. I used to puncture so much that I was in trouble.

The tire and the floor were stuck together with instant adhesive during the operation, and it was also brought rubber to the puncture prevention layer. Because I am worried that it is as it is, I cut off the old tire and it was filling in the hole.

Panareza's tire lever. I am familiar with traveling from Japan to Africa so it will be okay.

When I left for this trip I was newly adjusting the park lever's tire lever, but it broke when removing the tire from the rim. I broke two out of three, so I bought an iron tire lever in Belize. This will not break, but I was in embarrassment as the rim got scratched.

Supplied parts inside the hub of the wheel. The front hub was good, but the rear hub has mistyped the model number and has not solved anything. It was a simple mistake that the shaft shaft I purchased was a short type corresponding to a disc brake.

I feel a sense of incompatibility at the end of Mexico and I am being checked at the cycle shop. At that time confirm the scratches on the inside ball push. Since the ball push is the part that contacts the bearing, efficiency will be worse if there are scratches.

The old ham press of the front hub which has exchanged with Medellin. After scratching it will be scratched. There is a scratch on the hub of the rear hub more than this, so I have to manage it somewhere.

Together as chains bought overseas were left overseas.

Overseas cheap patch is peeled off part of the edge with the film, so there is a possibility that air leaks from there, so I do not like it much. A patch where the film of 100 yen shop properly peels off was also included with rubber gum.

Digital cameras are also new as they trab in Mexico. Because purchasing in Japan is the cheapest. However, since it is difficult to ship overseas lithium-ion batteries,PowerShot A 1400". Old model "PowerShot A 480It was also the reason for my choice to use no problem. However, when I actually got it, I was in trouble because the liquid crystal was exposed. Since the viewfinder is attached, I can worry that photos can be taken even if the liquid crystal breaks.

After trouble Nikon's digital camera "COOLPIX S2600I am purchasing ", but here the liquid crystal has broken. I used it as a misunderstanding by breaking one place, but another place was broken when I noticed it. I did not notice it until this, but the digital camera of a recent inexpensive model has exposed the liquid crystal, right? When touching with fingers, the liquid crystal is distorted.

In consideration of this point Olympus digital camera whose liquid crystal is protected in Panama "VG-160I bought it. This is going well. In the meantime Canon's SLR camera "EOS Kiss X 5, Canon's compact "PowerShot A 1400", and Olympus's "VG-160" compact car.

For trouble Victorinox's multi tool is also new. Until it was new, I was substituting the Leatherman tool on hand.

Similarly for hand lights. Gentos' light is cheap but its performance is satisfactory, and the headlight is also using the same manufacturer. I thought that I got a light made in China here, but I also wanted to grab the defective item, so I chose a reliable maker item. Because the head light made in China which I got in Europe was a bad product.

Since batteries are surprisingly expensive when overseas, they sent me a button battery of CR 2032 at 100 yen shop. I am using it with a speedometer.

UNIQLO 's down jacket prepared for South America' s Andean Mountains and Patagonia measures. I ordered on the Internet during the winter. Many people used it even on a trip, so I was concerned about the usability as well.

Five fingers socks not easily seen abroad. I hope the stiffness will work and I will be able to run quickly.

I love shopping at 100 yen shops. I wore a helmet after rolling on my head. If there is only one shower this will be a substitute for a bath towel. Towel is thick, and bandana is thin, so hand towel is the best.

You can get it overseas, but the earphone that remained in the house is also in hand.

"Hanging on a bicycleMIWCOMAdvertisement of "We also had a spare, so we sent them together. I will do my job.

The baggage I received in Colombia was like this.

◆ Increased baggage
Since it was arranged in Japan before departure, I have not purchased much. However, since the load of the loading platform has become messy, I bought a duffel bag in the USA. Is it about the mirror of the air mat or sunglasses which is easy to obtain in the United States in the hand?

When I ran from Canada, the loading platform was this way.

Purchase duffel bags in the US where prices are cheaper than Canada. However, this was a little small ... ....

Again in Salt Lake City I got a big duffel bag.

When loaded on a loading platform it looks something like this. Tents, mats, food, sandals etc. are included. Since baggage is decreasing for this duffel bag, I am worried about switching to the original Zac pack.

I got a Zac pack cover in Panama. It will be okay if it rains with this.

I used mats of round type from the departure all the time, but in the US I switched to air mat of Therma rest. Because it is for women, it becomes a floral pattern, but this is the best size and weight. It takes time and labor to put air, but comfort is the best.

Since air mats can be folded, packing has become easier. I am saved because it fits all in the bag.

Rounding type is this size, it was troublesome to carry it as a single package by this alone, dropping it in the middle of running.

I also bought a mirror of type to be attached to the sunglasses "Bike Peddler Take A Look Mirror" in the USA. I traveled West Africa togetherFriend's charriderIt was used and recommended. There was a bike mirror on the handle, so I did not care much, but this one is more convenient if you use it out.

When attached to sunglasses it is like this. Since you can check backward without looking backwards, safety during traveling will increase.

When using an airplane from Panama, the basin can not be packed. Since I had no choice but to leave it, I made another change in Colombia.

"Discovered in the long journey the point where laundry is progressing and the multi-purpose washbowl talent"I covered how to use the basin, but it will also become a desk.

◆ Reduced luggage
A trip to Canada and the United States where camping and self-cooking were central was changed from cheap accommodation and eating out from Mexico. Even days cold to subzero, it will become warm if you keep going south. For that reason, cooking and cold weather tools were greatly reduced. As the journey progresses, things that are not used come out, so we have also reduced those tools. Until now I carried baggage too much. Since the journey is also in the final stage, we will focus on speed with weight saving.

Since sleeping bag cover became unnecessary, became unnecessary self-catering, so we purchased small Kochel, purified water or decided to boil tap water so we decided to boil tap water and water purifier and Phoenix, Arizona before entering Mexico, unnecessary tools I sent it to Japan.

We have sent packages four times to the USA, Mexico, Mexico, Panama and Japan, and both have arrived safely.

As the eating out of Mexico increased, the chopping board was discarded and the kitchen knife was put in a Japanese inn in Cancun. My kitchen knife that I loved from around the time of Japan, the overseas accommodations were handy as they were all kitchen knives with bad sharpness. We will use Victorinox's multi roots for cooking.

A frying pan of fluorine processing selected in Japan to bake a steak in the United States. As this meant less self cooked, I handed it to a restaurant in Mexico where a tent was set up.

Plastic boxes had sandwiches and lunch supplements made for lunch. This is also a disposal because eating out becomes the center and the distance between the streets narrows and supply becomes easy. If you need it in Patagonia with low population density, you get a new one separately.

A jacket for outdoor got at a European discount store. North America was cold so it was indispensable, but as I got south, it got warmer, so I let go of it in Mexico City.

A tablet terminal that I bought with momentum while I was temporarily returning home. I was planning to make it a spare of a laptop computer, but because I have two spare batteries, I do not use it at all. I also used insurance when the laptop was broken or stolen, but I can buy a new item if I get around 40,000 yen even overseas. Because I had only the risk of theft and breakdown, I left it with a Japanese traveler who will return home from now. Since it also has a built-in lithium ion battery, it can not be mailed. We should switch smartphones instead of tablets to high-performance models.

The electronic dictionary that I loved on my trip back to Japan on this trip. I download a dictionary for PC and smartphone and substitute it. I also want to try Wikipedia because it seems to be in a dictionary and read offline ... ....

A paperback book I got in Japan. I brought out only one book of "confession", I planned to exchange it at the destination but I donated it to the hostel for weight saving. When I miss Japanese, I try to search e-books on the Internet.

Changing to a memo pad for lighter weight also to the person who meets a traveler to write a message.

The key that I worried too much before traveling and added it up will not be used after all. "It may be necessary in spare" "put together the bags" I was putting reasons, but I really do not use it. As soon as the main key is broken, I will buy another key locally.

When I stayed at the hostel I gathered bottles, water bottles, flags and other things outside the bicycle in the knapsack. However, after passing through Mexico, fewer places to stay at the hostel, plus a plastic bag could be substituted, so we discarded it.

It is enough that 8 bottle gauges are enough. We also sent parts to increase the attachment part of the minora's handle for weight reduction.

The pouch containing the chain oil and the peg etc was convenient, but it was getting worn out and the flight was near so I dispose of it.

◆ Current bicycle
Compared with the beginning of this trip, it became quite compact. I am running Colombia like this.

This bicycle circle around the world finally came to the last continent. Supply of emergency supplies also goes well and runs at a bad pace so you can reach Ushuaia at the southernmost tip of South America next year's head. Patagonia and South America in the Andes Mountains are places that can not be removed for Charida, so I will be careful while enjoying it.
