David Whipple, who bought the hamburger, left it for a month to show his friend that McDonald's hamburgers, which are full of preservatives, do not change over time, but he completely forgot about the fact, and two years later, the hamburger was found in his coat pocket. When David discovered the hamburger, he decided to leave it as it was, but when he saw the hamburger again in 2013, 14 years later, he was astonished to see that the hamburger had not changed at all.
Below is a hamburger that was left unattended for 14 years.
This is David Whipple.
'This wasn't something I did on purpose,' David says, 'I thought the burgers would be a good way to demonstrate how the enzymes work. I planned to leave them for a month, but then I completely forgot about them.'
The hamburger was in a paper bag and placed in the pocket of his coat along with the receipt, but David left his coat in the bed of his truck and forgot about it. By the time he noticed the coat, two or three months had passed, and then he put the coat in a closet, and his wife found the hamburger a year later.
I also kept the bag the burger came in.
Although it's a little hard to read, the receipt says the date is July 1999.
When the show's hosts got a closer look, the burger looked perfectly intact, without any unpleasant odors or mold, and was exactly as it had been in 1999. The only thing that had changed was that the pickles had lost their shape.
David said he plans to show the burger to his grandson to encourage him to be mindful of what he eats.
