Demonstration movie showing at a glance the difference in reaction speed of the touch screen

Opportunities to touch touch-operated terminals such as tablets and smartphones have increased, but it is the response at the time of operation as it becomes obvious. "I have a touch but I have a bad response" "I am not able to operate as I thought," it is not a bad way of operation, but there may be problems on the screen side. Microsoft Research has released a demonstration video on YouTube as to how much difference is caused by the difference in response speed (response time).

Response time is the time it takes for the screen color to change from black to white and then to black. Ms (milliseconds) is used as the unit. If this number is large it will take time to change.

First of all, touch screen with response time of 100 ms. As the reaction follows after the finger moves, it does not move as I expected.

With a 50 ms touch screen where the response time has doubled, the speed of chasing is doubled, following the finger. It may be acceptable range for this.

At 10 ms, the reaction almost overlapped with your fingers.

And 1 ms, the operation and reaction of the finger are perfectly consistent. Even if there is a gap, it is one thousandth of a second, so it is impossible to notice.

If you compare this with painting, it will be like this. 100 ms is a sense that "lines are drawn on the course traced with fingers".

If it is 1 ms, it will be a sense that I draw a line as it is with my finger.

By doing 8 × speed shooting, you can see how far away your fingers and lines are.

There is no gap between the finger and the line drawn when 1 ms.

It seems that the line is chasing his finger while trying hard at 100 ms ......

A line is drawn exactly as traced with a finger if it is 1 ms.

Although the difference is obvious when it is actually explained in this way, the difference is obvious, but in reality the body responds to the gap in response time and may not be bothered much. Unless it is a severe use, it seems that it will not be said that "display response time must be 1 ms."
