The world's No. 1 supercomputer made in Japan "Kyo", "processing speed to save lives"
A super computer that is jointly under development by Fujitsu and RIKEN, which shone in the world's No. 1 positionKeiThe real thing is "CEATEC JAPAN 2011"It was exhibited at the Fujitsu booth at the venue. "Kyo" is the supercomputer which won the first place of the 37th TOP 500 list and became a great achievement since June 2004 as a Japanese supercomputer.
"Next Generation Supercomputer": Fujitsu
Arrived at the Fujitsu booth.
A copy called "The world's best, to the power of Japan" glows.
For those who do not know about "Kyo", the project outline etc was written.
"Kyo" is jointly developed by Fujitsu and RIKEN under the plan "Construction of Innovative High Performance Computing Infrastructure" promoted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. We are aiming for completion in 2012, and we are expecting contributions in various fields such as medical, disaster prevention and manufacturing.
In order to be able to use the high performance of 10 petroprops widely, we are focusing on OS based on Linux, language environment such as Fortran / C / C ++, MPI and high versatility.
It seems that concrete activity methods such as automobile crash analysis, weather forecast and heart simulator are supposed to be based on the computing performance of 1 Kyoto (1 trillion ten thousand times) per second.
This is the "Kyo" system board. Four CPUs (SPARC64 VIIIfx) are mounted on this one board, and "SPARC64 VIIIfx" has eight cores integrated in one CPU. It achieves the world's highest per-power performance of 2.2 gigaflops per watt, and heat generated from CPU and ICC generated at the time of operation is removed by water cooling, enabling reduction of power consumption and extension of parts lifetime .
And here is the one with 24 system boards mounted on one. By collecting 800 system racks, it is becoming the super computer "Kyo". In short, it is one eighth of the "Kyo".
There is a system board part on the upper side.
In the center is a power supply section and IO system board section.
On the lower side there was a service processor board, system disk, system board section.
On June 20, 2011, I won the world's best and finally saw "processing speed to save lives".
Earn first place in TOP 500 list.
Developed countries are struggling to develop supercomputers, and the performance is rising at a high pace of 1.8 times annually.
By the way, I am ranked 6th in energy-saving supercomputer ranking.
So what do you actually do with "Kyo" ......
Areas such as life science / medical and drug discovery infrastructure, new substances / energy creation, earthquake forecasts contributing to disaster prevention and reduction are assumed.
He also said he can contribute to elucidating the mystery of "the origin and structure of matter and the universe" and to the next-generation manufacturing.
Upon development, developers with high aspirations are gathering for "Kyo".
This is a "6-dimensional mesh / torus structure interconnect", an innovative network (interconnect) connecting more than 80,000 CPUs mounted in "Kyo". In "Kyo", a network for exchanging data such as calculation results between CPUs plays a very important role.
"SPARC64 VIIIfx", the world's highest level of newly developed CPU, achieves the strict goal of "performance triple, power consumption less than 1/2".
The history of supercomputer in Japan began in 1977.
