Transformers' director Michael Bay interview, 3D shooting secret story also appeared

On July 29 (Friday) we will refrain from publishing in Japan "Transformers / Dark of the MoonDirector Michael Bay came to Osaka, so after seeing the backside of the 3-D shooting and the preview screening for the first time this time, about the part of "What was the purpose of that rendition?" I have listened directly to the extent that it does not.

Though I have not written the part that touches the core of the story, please be careful for those who say "I do not want to put any previous information about the story's story before it opens!

Q:
It was said in Moscow Premier that "I took a crowd and shoot in Chicago", but what was this content?

Director Michael Bay (M :)
This was because I was allowed to shoot movies in the city of Chicago, and I had them open for 12 blocks in all, but I do not think that it is unlikely that permission to shoot is given to so many areas I will.

As I shot in the summer, there were thousands of tourists in Chicago, and I took the action scenes in that, so I want to take a scene to explode scenes and machine guns before they are watching I became it. Every time the tourists came to see and applauded.

However, it does not mean that (the tourists watching the shoot) are reflected. However, from the shooting team, there was a place that I do not want you to stay for too long (laugh)

Q:
It is said that James Cameron 's recommendation offered Mr. James Cameron' s recommendation for the first time to introduce a 3 - D camera and took more than 60% of the full - length video with a 3D camera, but in fact it will be the mainstream in the film world Have you felt the response that it will become?

Ma:
As you say, 60% was shot with a 3D camera, 20% was made by CG, the rest were made by converting what we took with a normal camera.

The part that converted the image of the normal camera is because there are complicated scenes that still can not be taken with a 3D camera. This time it was completely outdoor shooting, the fact that there were a lot of action scenes, and also in the aerial shooting, so it was completely different from how to shoot like being controlled in the set. I think that it may be said that it was the most difficult shooting among 3D movies made up to now.

The performance of the camera is getting better and better and it is still a new technology, so I feel that development will be more advanced and it will be wonderful from now on.

Q:
I will ask you about VFX. There are many expressions that have never been seen in "Transformers", "Transformers / Revenge" or other movies, especially scenes including scenes hanging like drool, and scenes highlighted by slow motion Although it remained in the impression, etc., As for the director himself, while placing a close meeting, what kind of order did you specifically put on the order?

Ma:
I've been doing it with my team for 6 years and I listen to music on PC and write out the action scenes that I imagine. There is a small team in my office and I will decide to move the robot like this with animation for about 9 months together with that team, rough cartoon.

But sometimes the very rough cartoon and movie scenes that it made are almost always together. By the way, in making the first "Transformers", the first thing that happened is the scene that Sam jumps out of Bumblebee and returns again. Of course, the animator may give an idea, so I make it using the team work.

Bumblebee where the left protects the hero's sam, right is Optimus Prime led by Autobot

Q:
About 3D This time I have gotten a high reputation, but despite my first challenge of 3D movie production, please tell me what I felt from my experiences making this big piece. Also, please tell me about the fact that the same company produces these 3D movies.

Ma:
First of all, it takes time to shoot 3D movies. There are various technical challenges, even if they explain, the readers just get bored, but (laugh)

It is very labor-intensive, in that it corrects a truly delicate shift of the camera, which is very labor-costed. It took time to correct / adjust the shot image anyway.

I think that there are only a handful of directors who can take 3D shoots and make movies. It does not mean that you can make a good 3D movie just because you used a 3D camera, but you also need to understand that you will experience the space with how to use and move. There are those who have that part and those who do not have it, they can not be taught.

Q:
It is 2 hours 37 minutes over the whole story and it is the longest showing time of the "Transformers" series history, why did it become so much so much?

Ma:
It is because there were many stories that must be completed. I felt the need to see the back story dating back to the robots' past from the fans, so I spent some time there. And sometimes I wanted to make it a work that is rich in emotions.

Actually, I often complain about the length of the second "Transformers / Revenge" than the "Transformers / Darkside Moon" (laugh) because "Transformers / Dark Side moon 'is more able to enter the story, so I think that it was better that the rhythm is better than the first two works and that the action was also left to the last.

Q:
In "Transformers", "Transformers / Revenge" there was almost no depiction of "human beings die", but in this "Transformers / Darkside Moon" there is a directive that makes the "people die" blatantly. Did it happen that there was any change in policy?

Ma:
I can not keep making the work at the same level all the time and I think that there is a part that I have to escalate a bit and the place I just said is certainly a violent scene but it's short and fast I will pass away. It is sometimes seen by children, and it is making it long not to catch the audience.

Through this direction, I can understand that the Decepticon gets serious, and I wanted to clarify that (the hero's Sams are facing such terrible things).

Q:
As far as the last 30 minutes before entering the climax it seems like the whole movie 'From here is the point of view' in other movies was cut entirely, the depiction should be entirely removed, suddenly flew after the 'incident' I got an impression, but why is that? Did not you make it in time for publication? Or was it due to the convenience of the show time?

Ma:
It is a good point of view. I never cut the scene around that, I intentionally made that kind of directing.

Many movies of the type that the alien attacks are already present, such as "Space War" and works handed down by director Roland Emmerich, and the audience already has enough (Alien invasion scenario Because I've been watching the movie), I wanted to take it to the scene after suddenly being suppressed. That's why I showed the scene of attack by Decepticon and showed me the scene soon.

It was a part I wanted to take as well as attacking scenes when controlling, but I wanted to focus on the place where "how the transformer wins" rather than it.

Q:
Thank you very much.
