A programming experience without using a PC as a painting sensation, a kit of "Lepidoptera robot" and "beetle robot"
Holding on Makuhari Messe until Saturday, October 9CEATEC JAPAN 2010ToJS RoboticsThe insect robot series "Ladybug robot" and "Beetle robot" were exhibited.
It is said that it is an educational robot for elementary school fourth grade students, by reading a black and white pattern drawn on paper or white board with a sensor to memorize instructions, it seems that programming experience can be done without using a personal computer.
Images and movies are from the following. Makuhari Messe 5 Hall, along the Ibaraki Rinku Shinkansen Line · Chiba Prefecture Toukyu New Industry Creation Promotion Network booth.

The inside of the kit looks like this. Since the board is a finished product, you can easily assemble it with a screwdriver and scissors. The target age is from college 4th graders to college students.
I had the program "beetle robot" read and program executed.

The four black sensors on the back side determine whether the object 1 mm forward of the sensor is black or white.
It traces the program sheet like this to read the program.
Since one instruction reads by using the left three sensors to read each of the six squares of 3 squares x 2 columns to determine whether it is white or black, there are 64 instruction codes in total, with 2 to 6 powers . The part that the rightmost sensor reads is to make it distinguish as "This two rows is a set and one code". By combining these, it is possible to program movements such as giving out sounds or "Stopping the left motor (turn left)" after moving forward for 1 second.

There are built-in programs that have been included since the beginning, so you can play them as soon as they are assembled. This is where we are doing "line tracing" to trace over the black line. You can draw a figure on white paper by yourself and trace it. It is said to be tough if there are intersecting parts such as "8", but if it is zigzag, swirl, triangle and so on OK. The child seems to be pleased.

"Lady bug robot" which moves by vibrating the toothbrush with a vibration motor is said to make a slightly different movement from "Beetle basket robot" moving with tires, so even those of "ladybug robots" were moved.
