Benefits of installing a wireless LAN access point on a school bus

One high school in the United States installed wireless LAN access points on school buses, allowing students to connect to the Internet from the time they leave home until they return, and has seen some interesting results. This may provide a clue to solving Japan's current information education problems.

In 2005, Empire High School in Arizona provided all students with laptops instead of textbooks and installed over 100 wireless LAN access points throughout the school to create a secure connection environment.
However, the commute time by school bus, which takes over an hour each way, was naturally impossible, and that time was wasted. In the United States, school districts are generally large, and it is not uncommon for commutes to take over an hour, even by school bus.
One day, a local government official was driving to work when he thought, 'If only someone else would drive for me so I could work on my laptop.' This led to the installation of a wireless LAN router on the school bus. As a result, students began doing their homework, updating Facebook, and other tasks as they pleased, and the once-noisy interior of the bus became much quieter.
A real school bus.

Students silently typing away on their keyboards. Even though they are not being forced to do their homework, more and more students are doing it.

Apparently, some students found that the bus was surprisingly quiet and a good place to think.

It seems that some students are still playing games, but there are no particular restrictions on them. There are likely many issues to be addressed, such as how to restrict access to harmful information and how to raise awareness of personal information protection, but I feel that creating an environment in this way where students can express their creativity 24 hours a day could bring about major changes in the future.
