Meisei Foods Raises Price of Instant Noodles from 2008 for the First Time in 17 Years



Following NissinMeisei Foods is also likely to raise the suggested retail price of all instant noodles by about 8 to 11% from the shipment on January 1 next year, following the soaring raw material price.

As with Nissin, the previous price revision was in 1990, which will be the first price increase in 17 years.

According to the release, the government's selling price of wheat, the main raw material, has been drastically increased in October this year, and the prices of palm oil, containers, packaging materials, materials and soup raw materials etc. It is rising due to high crude oil price and agricultural product price hike and it seems to be sure that the cost will be greatly affected.

"Chalmaera" and "Teppan-yaki soba" of bags are raised by 10 yen, from 90 yen to 100 yen. "Ippei-chan (regular size)" of the cup is raised from 155 yen to 170 yen, "Ippei-chan's night shop's Yakisoba Dai Sheng" rises 15 yen from 175 yen to 190 yen. The rough meat series increased from ¥ 250 to ¥ 270, rising by 20 yen. In terms of monetary value, the price increases from 10 yen to 20 yen.

According to the Yomiuri Shimbun, Oriental Fishery known as "Maru-chan" seems to be considering raising prices though it seems that other companies will probably follow this.
