A huge satellite banana floating 50 km above the ground is under construction

A project to fill a gigantic banana by Argentine native artist Cesar Saez with helium and float it over Texas started. It is said that the framework is made of bamboo, but is the durability okay?

Details are as below. Mr. Saez's giant banana is packed with helium like a balloon and it is said that it will drift over 50 km from 30 km of Texas.

The framework of the banana consists of bamboo. The part hitting the skin of the banana is made of synthetic paper and a valve for gas is also attached so that shape can be maintained all the time.

Eventually it will be 300 meters in length and will be launched in August 2008.

It seems to be visible from the ground like this.

Geostationary Banana Over Texas

September 13, 2007 16:51 Fixed:Since the reader pointed out that the sky 30 to 50 km is not a geosynchronous orbit, the title was corrected. By the way, geostationary orbit is said to refer only to 35786 km on the equator.
