We compared the benchmark scores of the 'iPhone 18 Pro' and 'iPhone 17 Pro' to test the capabilities of the A20 Pro chip.

The

iPhone 18 Pro was released on September 18, 2026. The iPhone 18 Pro uses the A20 Pro chip manufactured using a 2nm process, and is touted as having a 20% faster CPU and a 40% faster GPU compared to the previous generation iPhone 17 Pro. I managed to get my hands on an iPhone 18 Pro, so I ran benchmark tests and compared its scores with the iPhone 17 Pro.

The following are the results of a CPU test using the popular benchmark app ' Geekbench 7 '. The iPhone 17 Pro (left) had a single-core score of 3301 and a multi-core score of 9185, while the iPhone 18 Pro (right) had a single-core score of 4030 and a multi-core score of 11,507. In both cases, the iPhone 18 Pro performed better.

The GPU test scores were 44,062 for the iPhone 17 Pro and 61,566 for the iPhone 18 Pro.

We also ran

the Antutu Benchmark test. The overall score for the iPhone 17 Pro was 2,405,029, while the iPhone 18 Pro scored 3,451,830. The iPhone 18 Pro scored significantly higher in all categories: CPU, GPU, memory, and UX.

We also tested it using the benchmark app '

Geekbench AI ' to measure AI processing performance. In CPU processing, the iPhone 18 Pro recorded higher scores than the iPhone 17 Pro, with a single-precision score of 7047, a half-precision score of 12,286, and a quantized score of 9088.

Even in GPU processing, the iPhone 18 Pro scored higher.

Even when using the Neural Engine, an AI processing processor, the iPhone 18 Pro significantly outperformed the iPhone 17 Pro.

The iPhone 18 Pro outperformed the iPhone 17 Pro in all tests, although its surface temperature tended to be slightly higher. The following are the results of measuring the display surface temperature of both models using the '

HIKMICRO Mini2Plus V2 ' while running Antutu Benchmark. The hottest part of the iPhone 17 Pro (left) was 40.1 degrees Celsius, compared to 41.0 degrees Celsius on the hottest part of the iPhone 18 Pro (right).

The back of the iPhone 18 Pro got the hottest on the left side of the camera. The hottest part reached 39.1 degrees Celsius for the iPhone 17 Pro and 39.9 degrees Celsius for the iPhone 18 Pro. With the iPhone 17 Pro, it felt like 'the area around the camera module got hot, but the rest of the device wasn't so hot,' but with the iPhone 18 Pro, the entire back got hot, making it feel 'hot no matter where you held it.' The iPhone 18 Pro's heat dissipation mechanism, the 'vapor chamber,' has a surface area three times larger than that of the iPhone 17 Pro, improving its ability to dissipate heat to the outside, which is said to allow it to run demanding games and AI for extended periods.

A review article testing the camera and battery performance of the iPhone 18 Pro will be published at a later date. Stay tuned!
