The Gemma Translator is a device developed by a small team at Google Creative Lab . It features a microphone and speaker; when you speak into the microphone, it translates the text into the target language and plays the audio through the speaker. It can also display the original text before and after translation on a monitor.



It is equipped with a

Raspberry Pi 5 single-board computer and runs Google's lightweight AI model 'Gemma 4 E2B' using Google's LiteRT-LM inference framework for edge devices to perform translation processing. Transcription before translation and speech synthesis after translation are performed locally using Moonshine 's AI.



This is what a conversation using Gemma Translator looks like. All processing is done locally, so you can converse with multilingual speakers even in places without an internet connection.
