'X MCP,' which allows users to manipulate X's API via an AI agent to perform tasks such as 'post search' and 'trend analysis,' has been released.

On June 30, 2026, X announced ' X MCP ,' a hosted Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that allows AI tools to communicate with the X API using the user's own account privileges. X MCP makes it easier for AI assistants such as Claude and Grok Build, as well as other MCP-compatible apps, to connect directly to X and perform tasks such as analyzing X posts and summarizing information.

Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open-source standard for connecting AI applications to external systems. Traditionally, if a developer wanted to access X from an AI assistant, they had to build and host their own MCP server, connect to the X API, and handle authentication.
By using X MCP, X hosts the MCP, allowing users to complete the integration process simply by authenticating with the permissions of their X account.
Integrating AI applications with X using X MCP allows users to search X, view posts, analyze conversations and trends, and more, all through the X API. While similar operations were possible before, X MCP makes accessing information even easier. X states that 'agents now have access to the world's best real-time information sources,' promoting X not just as a social networking service but as an information network capable of acquiring and analyzing real-time data.

Regarding concerns that 'the increased ease of AI applications connecting to X might lead to an increase in automated posts and spam by bots on X,' X explained that 'MCP tools are not compatible with X's Write API endpoint, and therefore cannot autonomously post on X.'
Instructions and technical details for using X MCP can be found in the official documentation.
