According to a report published by S&P Global Mobility on May 31, 2026, Samsung's market share in the automotive memory market rose from 35% in 2025 to 40%, propelling the company to the top spot. Meanwhile, Micron, which had previously held the top position, saw its market share decline from 40% to 36%, dropping it to second place.

This shift is driven by Samsung's rapid business expansion in the rapidly growing Chinese market, in addition to traditional automotive markets such as Europe, South Korea, and Japan. The surge in demand for high-capacity, high-performance memory used in autonomous driving systems and increasingly sophisticated in-car infotainment systems is also believed to have contributed to this change.

Samsung entered the automotive memory market in 2015, targeting high-performance infotainment systems and autonomous vehicles, and deploying low-power memory solutions such as LPDDR and UFS. Subsequently, it was one of the first companies to adopt automotive SSDs and graphics DRAM in mass-produced vehicles, accelerating its entry into the global premium market centered on autonomous driving technology.

Samsung SSDs are characterized by their highly durable design that can withstand shocks, vibrations, and temperature changes, and have received the 'CES Innovation Awards,' which recognizes outstanding products.

S&P Global Mobility stated that 'Samsung recorded more than 40% average annual revenue growth in the automotive memory market from 2020 to 2025.'

Furthermore, memory prices continue to soar due to the demand generated by AI, and it is said that by 2026, the value of memory will be higher than that of oil. This is based on the fact that the value of the top three memory manufacturers—Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix—is higher than that of the top three oil companies.
