Qualcomm has announced the 'Snapdragon C' chip for low-cost PCs to compete with the MacBook Neo, and Acer has quickly adopted it, releasing the entry-level model 'Aspire Go 15'.

Qualcomm has announced the ' Snapdragon C ' SoC, which delivers high performance to budget-conscious users. This chip features improved power efficiency and is said to have features such as 'low fan noise.'

The Snapdragon C is a chip designed for entry-level laptops priced at $300 (approximately 48,000 yen) or more, offering 'comfortable performance,' 'quiet and low-heat design,' and 'all-day battery life.' It also features an integrated NPU for AI functionality, providing a certain level of performance for users expecting AI capabilities. However, it does not meet the requirements for Microsoft's 'Copilot+ PC' (AI-oriented PC) designation.
The Verge, a technology media outlet, points out that 'they have definitely cut corners in order to achieve the lower price.' For example, the Snapdragon C does not use the 'Oryon' CPU core, which forms the basis of Qualcomm's latest Windows laptop and smartphone chips, but instead uses the older 'Kryo' core that was used in older smartphones and Chromebooks.

Qualcomm stated, 'The Snapdragon C is designed to deliver the everyday computing experience people expect from entry-level laptops with high power efficiency. It makes everyday tasks such as web browsing, video playback, productivity tools, and video calls more comfortable.'
Snapdragon C will be supplied by OEM manufacturers such as Acer, HP, and Lenovo, and Acer has already adopted it and is developing a new laptop.
The Acer Aspire Go 15 is an entry-level model described as 'an affordable laptop with all the features you need to boost productivity and make your day more comfortable.' It features a 15.6-inch Full HD display and graphics powered by a Qualcomm Adreno GPU. It comes with up to 8GB of memory, 512GB of storage, and a 53Wh battery. Other features include two USB Type-C ports, an HDMI port, a USB Type-A port, and an audio jack.

The price is still unknown. The release date will be announced at a later date.
Kedar Condapp, General Manager at Qualcomm, said, 'Snapdragon C brings together price-conscious computing, all-day battery life, AI capabilities, and comfortable performance in a quiet, low-heat device, offering a choice. We are expanding access to reliable and efficient technology, providing a modern computing experience for students, families, and small and medium-sized businesses that serve customers.'
