Steam provides store tags to make it easier to find games that are available. Users can use tags to search for games in their favorite genres.

Steam has officially announced that they have added, removed, and edited store tags. Steam has been adding several new tags each year based on community feedback, but the last time they added any was in 2024. Since then, they have been creating a list for adding, removing, and updating tags, and this update marks the completion of that process.
The following 17 tags have been newly added. Note that new tags are added 'when there are enough games on Steam to which that tag can be applied, or when it is determined that it can link games that cannot be related using existing combinations of tags.'
Bullet Hell : The opposite of Bullet Hell. A game where you automatically attack hordes of enemies while focusing on upgrades.

Cleaning : A game where you get satisfaction from removing dirt and grime.
Decoration : A game where you creatively arrange furniture and other objects.

Xianxia : A fantasy adventure game that focuses on developing supernatural powers and strength.
Falling Blocks : A game where you rotate and place blocks that fall from above.
Espionage : A game about espionage or the activity of secretly obtaining valuable information.
Samurai : A game featuring Japanese warriors, well-known for their swords, loyalty, and self-discipline.

Tags that no longer serve an effective role in establishing connections between games or describing unique and useful elements of in-game content have been removed.
The following is a list of the deleted tags. The reasons for tag deletion include: 'significant overlap with other tags,' 'overly subjective,' 'controversial or inconsistent application,' 'not applicable to many products,' and 'tags related to specific intellectual property.'

Furthermore, some tags have been renamed or merged to eliminate duplication and provide clearer content descriptions. The changed tags are as follows:
- The term ' clicker ' has been changed to 'incremental,' which better captures the essence of the game in a broader sense, focusing on increasing numbers.
- The term ' conversation ' has been more clearly changed to 'emphasis on dialogue.'
- Changed ' Dogs ,' ' Foxes ,' ' Vampires ,' ' Elves ,' ' Dwarves ,' and ' Assassins ' to the plural form to match other tags.
- The term ' Pool ' was often used jokingly in reference to games featuring swimming pools, so it was changed to 'Billiards,' which is a general term for all games played with a cue stick.
- 'Jet' lacked individuality, so it was merged into ' Flight '.
- The term 'harsh' was merged with 'high difficulty ' as its purpose and intent largely overlapped.
It's important to note that tags can be applied to games distributed on Steam not only by the game's developers, but also by users with unrestricted accounts and Steam moderators. This means that as more users play a game and more opinions are expressed about what constitutes the most appropriate tags for that game, the game's tags may change.
