OpenAI announced ' GPT-5.5 ' on April 23, 2026. GPT-5.5 is touted as offering significantly higher performance at a processing speed equivalent to GPT-5.4, and has recorded higher scores than the Claude Opus 4.7 in various benchmarks.

GPT-5.5 is offered within ChatGPT as 'GPT-5.5 Thinking' and 'GPT-5.5 Pro'. GPT-5.5 Thinking has achieved better results than Claude Opus 4.7 and Gemini 3.1 Pro in benchmarks measuring agent performance and knowledge performance, while GPT-5.5 Pro performs even better than GPT-5.5 Thinking in complex tasks.
The graph below shows the results of performance tests conducted by the third-party organization Artificial Analysis for 'GPT-5.5,' 'GPT-5.4,' 'Claude Opus 4.7,' 'Claude Opus 4.6,' and 'Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview.' The horizontal axis represents the number of output tokens, and the vertical axis represents intelligence performance. The graph clearly shows the high processing performance per output token of GPT-5.5.
