OpenAI adds a more affordable monthly tier of 16,800 yen to its ChatGPT Pro plan, while the existing 30,000 yen monthly tier remains available.
OpenAI has updated its ChatGPT paid plans, introducing a Pro plan available for ¥16,800 per month. The previous Pro plan at ¥30,000 per month will also be offered, meaning there are now two Pro plan tiers: ¥16,800 and ¥30,000 per month.

OpenAI has announced on its X (formerly Twitter) account that it is adding a new tier to its ChatGPT Pro plan. The new Pro plan, priced at ¥16,800 per month, offers five times the usage of the Plus plan, access to the cutting-edge ChatGPT Pro model, and early access to experimental features. OpenAI explains the new Pro plan as follows:
'We've updated ChatGPT's subscription plans, Pro and Plus, to better support the increasing use of Codex. We're introducing a new tier to the Pro plan at $100/month (¥16,800/month in Japan). This new tier offers five times the amount of Codex available as the Plus plan, making it ideal for longer, more demanding Codex sessions. ChatGPT continues to offer access to all Pro features with this new Pro tier, including exclusive Pro models and unlimited access to Instant and Thinking models. To celebrate the launch, we're increasing the amount of Codex available for a limited time until May 31st, so that the $100/month Pro plan offers up to 10 times the amount of Codex available as ChatGPT Plus, allowing you to build your most ambitious ideas.'

An OpenAI spokesperson told technology media outlet TechCrunch that 'the new $100/month Pro tier is designed to give developers more cost-effective and actionable coding capabilities, especially in high-load work sessions where limitations are most critical. Compared to Claude Code, Codex offers higher coding capabilities per dollar across all paid tiers, and the difference is most noticeable when using it for active coding.'
OpenAI also explains that its ProTier plan, priced at 30,000 yen per month, is 'sufficient to continuously support even the most demanding workflows, even across parallel projects.'
