According to Ashley Vaniczek, Amazon's spokesperson, Amazon has previously absorbed the rising costs of fuel and logistics, but if costs remain high, similar to those of major airlines, they will temporarily introduce surcharges to recover some of those costs.

The fuel surcharge is not applied to the product's selling price, but rather to the amount charged when Amazon ships products via FBA. The amount varies depending on the product's dimensions, but on average, it's about 17 cents (approximately 25 yen) per item for products handled by FBA.

Vaniczek explained, 'It's significantly lower than the surcharges imposed by airlines,' adding, 'Amazon will continue to be committed to the success of our sales partners and maintaining a wide selection and low prices for our customers.'

In response to attacks by the United States and Israel, Iran has taken countermeasures to obstruct passage through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital logistical channel, and the price of Brent crude oil futures, a benchmark for crude oil prices, is approaching its highest level since the armed conflict began.

Amazon is scheduled to implement a fuel surcharge starting April 17, 2026.

Amazon is not the only company affected by rising fuel and logistics costs; in the United States, the postal service will also be imposing a fuel surcharge starting April 26, 2026. Furthermore, major shipping companies like UPS and FedEx have already imposed fuel surcharges and are raising the amount of the surcharges.
